| DIY car stereo install? Ok this doesn't really fit here, but I figure it's in line with the average DIY mentality. I need a new car stereo for my Honda Odyssey minivan. Frys has one on sale that looks like it would meet my needs. I'm sure If I have them install it, it's going to double the price by the time I pay for installation, an overpriced wiring adapter etc... So my question is - how hard is this to do myself? and where can I get the needed adapter to take the pony tail of wire from my honda and have it properly fit the new stereo. I'd prefer an adapter vs cutting and splicing - that way I can put the old radio back in if needed. - Jack | |||

| Re: DIY car stereo install? I think Crutchfield is pretty good about listing the adapters and such. I've had a couple stereos put in, and usually I find a "free install" deal somewhere. Watch the Sunday papers, and I bet you can find one. I enjoy DIY but gave up on installing head units in cars. I usually just end up frustrated and with broken plastic pieces when I'm done. -- Otto | |||

| Re: DIY car stereo install? It is not terribly hard to do. As far as splicing wires, the only thing you have to do is connect the wires coming out of the new stereo to the wires on the adapter you buy, then plug it in. I prefer to buy these connectors to cleanly and securely connect the wires. I would say the hardest part is getting the factory stereo out, and mounting the new stereo. I will never have a stereo installed, one because I think I can do a better job and will take more time to do it right, and two because unless it's free it cost too much. ![]() | |||

| | Re: DIY car stereo install? Yup... this is off topic... lol. I know you're trying though. You might check out our sister car audio forum... we swap out links.... Car Audio Talk Some of those guys are pretty up on all this stuff. Generally you can pick up an install kit or dash kit and wiring harness at a local car stereo shop for little of nothing. If you don't have one close by, then as the other guys said... Crutchfield is loaded. | |||
