| Budget sub that I'm building for a friend. What driver, enclosure would match up very well with a 100Watt plate amp? I have this amp that I'm trying to get rid of, and a friend wants me to build him a sub, and he isn't expecting a lot because of the small space requirements. I can get exact dimensions in a day or so, but for now I'd say somewhere between 18*18*20 or something, it might end up being smaller or larger. Go Go Go. Budget for the driver would be ~40. I know it's not much, but what can you do? | |||

| Re: Budget sub that I'm building for a friend. Lol, I know, I know. It's horrid, but he's on a budget and anything is better than nothing. I thought of that eD budget sub (That I have two of) in a smaller sealed design, but I can get WinISD working tonight, so I don't know how well it would work. But I'll tell you, 1 of them running on just 100 watts can still get moving a bit, nothing too impressive of course. I'll make sure to set my expectations low. ![]() | |||

| Re: Budget sub that I'm building for a friend. Uh...where are you getting "a little more than one cubic foot"? If the OP could at least go with internal dimensions of 17 x 17 x 19, that is over 3 cubic feet. If at all possible I'd go with a ported tuned in the high 20s. Chances are that amp has a highpass somewhere in the twenties anyways. \ I certainly wouldn't go with a small, sealed, low power, low excursion, option. | |||

I guess a high tuned sub would work, but even a 12" with only 100 watts power would want a 4" diameter port, and that's gonna reduce the volume even further. Either way, he's pretty screwed.....I guess it'll beat out the tv speakers and a HTIB sub though ![]() | |||||

| Re: Budget sub that I'm building for a friend. Yeah, your disgust clouded your mind. No worries. But yeah, trying to build a sub with such a limited budget certainly isn't a great idea, but what are you gonna do? NO sense in crapping all over the idea. If he has to make something work, then might as well do the best he can. And a four inch port in the design I am thinking of would only take up ~4liters...he cans till have around 3ft^3 of effective volume to work with if he sticks to a similar enclosure size as suggested. I also think the ED EHQS driver is worth a look. http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...roducts_id=183 | |||
