i really need help q 18 - rlp 15 rlp 18

i am trying to run new subs i would like to stay under 15.5 cf .driver around 300.00 350.00 each. sono tube as tall as 80 inches tall over all .no more than 22 inch diameter . have been looking at if Q 18 - rlp 15 - rlp 18 tc sounds ? . f3 around 15 hz low tune playable to around 10 hz . i really want 18's but i may not have enogh room .i have modeled them all on win but they all come out close to the same. i am obviously doing something wrong. the rlp 15 at 10 cf is where i have been leaning but i cant get the others to model out and i dont get all the fine specs like resonance , port noise , chuffing , xmax limmits etc. any pros out there i will build what ever you can model for me .

Looking past the grammar , with 15 cubic feet as a max for a ported sub, I wouldn't tune any lower than 17hz with either of those 18" drivers. If you want a lower tune, you can go 260 effective liters with the RLp-15 D2 and a 15hz tune or 320 effective liters with the TC 2000 15" SVC and a 14-15hz tune.

Re: i really need help q 18 - rlp 15 rlp 18

The default RLp-15 parameters are wrong. When creating a new driver in WinIS Pro, enter only the following parameters:

Qes
Qms
Fs
Vas
Mms
Re
Le
Xmax

It will calculate all the rest for you. If you try to enter any more than that, it will cause errors because the published value may be something like 1.1 when WinISD really calculates it to be 1.092568, so it will refuse it. So again, only enter the parameters I listed.

You can't really define bass sound quality, as some people like the sound of distortion and others don't. If you want to talk about accuracy however, the two 18"s should by all means be better than the two 15"s. I couldn't tell you which of the two 18"s is more accurate without seeing distortion measurements. Between the two 15"s, the TC 2000 offers a little more displacement and has a looser suspension, mating a little better with a larger enclosure and lower tune.

Re: i really need help q 18 - rlp 15 rlp 18

well what i have come up with is either the tride and true rlp 15 265 l . or the tc 2000 looks pretty good .i will have a box 20 x 20 x 84 about 15 cu after bracing that i would like to put a q 18 or rlp 18 tuned to about 17 hz . that is what i came up with could you check the pros and cons port size and lenth . noise sound quality ? the 18 model well as they dont have to work as hard to reach the same levels. from what i see but then agian i dont know what im looking at .

Re: i really need help q 18 - rlp 15 rlp 18

ok so far with my limited knowledge . i have come up with using tc sounds tc 2000 15 inch drivers. i am still trying to model other drivers but they all seem to model ok . the rlp 18 rolls off really bad ubove 100 hz and it is the only driver that does this are the ts listed correctly for the 18 ? am i missing any other drivers that are popular that will work in a 10 cu or less LT with good sound quality .

From my modeling the RL-P 18 doesn't roll off much more than the TC-2000, they're both about -3 dB at about 250 Hz.

Steve, Why not tune the RL-p18 to 15-16 Hz in a 15 cuft effective enclosure? Pls elaborate.

Re: i really need help q 18 - rlp 15 rlp 18

because in win the tc 2000 actualy play almost as loud and play flater.the 18 need well over 20 cu to do what they do best. and i dont have the room 15cu is pushing it so the 15's fit me best . the next house will have the space i need. the only 18 that works in smaller sizes is the tc lms 18 but at 800.00 each no thanks. its not like 2 15 wont do the job

Re: i really need help q 18 - rlp 15 rlp 18

If it is a 16 Hz tune, you won't need 15 cu ft for the TC 2000, but only around 12 cu ft net will do it.

Nevertheless, I have checked for the RLp 18 in a 15 cu ft net enclosure, and found it will be only 2 db higher than the TC 2000 in a 12 Cu ft (same tune 16 Hz) .

So you're right, for the space, 2 db may not be an issue.

No reflection on your spelling (at all) but Mozilla Firefox 2 has an auto spelling checker.

It underlines any misspelt words in red as you type and saves hours searching for typos.

Handy until somebody gives us all voice recognition and we can finally dump these dyslexic keyboards.

Good luck with your sub project.
