| Re: ART Cleanbox mod thread Mod complete and case back together. The disassembly and assembly took the longest time. I had to go buy a desoldering tool for this one. I had never used one before but it was straight forward no issues. The actual mod was quite easy. Well I plugged it in and no magic smoke came out. I will play a movie tonight and will write back how it was. Thanks all for posting. | ||||

| Re: ART Cleanbox mod thread could someone look at www.digikey.ca and tell me what caps to order. I need to order some fans for my ep2500's so I would like know the part numbers so I can order the same time. http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...me=495-1169-ND This is what looks correct to me can someone verify. | Re: ART Cleanbox mod thread I'm told by a reliable source that those are typical metal film capacitors and will be fine, as long as the size works for this project. Regards, Wayne | ||||

Been using this for 6 or 7 months now, much happier with this than the clean box, superior in every way. The only issue for many will be trying to make a stand alone unit, instead of integrating it like I did. Figure 5 on this PDF is the circuit. http://www.thatcorp.com/datashts/1600data.pdf | |||||

| Re: ART Cleanbox mod thread Looks good, but the datasheet lists the gain at around 6dB, which isn't enough to go from "consumer" level up to "pro" level. Would not be an issue for everyone though... | ||||

| Re: ART Cleanbox mod thread It appears the images on the first post are gone. Does anyone have these handy? And what is the general consensus on the best caps to use from Radio Shack? the 1uf 250mv? http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search Last edited by myn; 10-21-09 at 02:48 PM.. | ||||

| Re: ART Cleanbox mod thread So I went out and bought the Radio Shack 1uf 250v caps and installed them tonight. I did a passive REW test before and after using channel 2 XLR as the input and channel 2 RCA as the output. This is reverse of how I run it normally but I didn't have any female to female XLR cables handy. In any case the response plot looks the same as it did originally. Do these 2 caps only effect the channel 1 inputs (rcas)? Also what do each of these capacitors map to? Is it 1 cap for each channel input (1 and 2) or is it just for the channel 1 with each cap representing the left/right (white/red)? Do these metal film caps require a specific polarity? I just sat them in and didn't even think about which way they were being inserted. Also for reference I passively tested my Panasonic XR-55 receiver and it tested out great with no decline in slope until around 9hz. Below is the Cleanbox graph after the mod (Note rolloff below 30hz still): ![]() One of the 2 installed ![]() Both new caps installed ![]() ![]() Testing modded cleanbox with REW wiring up to channel 2 input (XLR) ![]() Last edited by myn; 10-23-09 at 11:35 PM.. | ||||
