Hi JP,
Your works done very impressive results. How much time for building and what is the total cost for your two subwoofers? I would like to build the same thing but with an 500w RMS power amplifier enclosed into the box. I will look for this with variable crossover, phase control and all the in and outputs. Do you think that is a good idea? I will compare this alternative with the AV123 MFW-15 purchase ($600 each + $210 S/H to Canada). But the box size of these is much bigger than your Peerless.

JP,

Great looking setup, the Yamaha monitors look great. The sub make great stands,I can take a guess and say sound quality, bass quality using the XXLS must be very high.

Again nice setup.

Hello Tony,

For each sub, the cost is arround 450 $:

Peerless XXLS 12 driver - 195
Peerless passive radiator - 105
Shipping - 50
Wood, glue, etc - 100

It took me a weekend for each sub.

Yes you could use an amplifier plate, with some modifications in the design.

But I prefer to use an external amp. The Behringer EP2500 is not expensive ($350) and could be use with the DSP1124 FeedBack Destroyer ($85) or with the DCX2496 Ultradrive ($210) to get a flat curve and good integration with main speakers.

The Crown XTi 1000 ($499) is another nice option because it have a built in parametric EQ and delivers 1400 watts bridged on 4 ohms .

Actualy I drive my 2 subs with a Rotel RB-1080 that produce arround 300watts at 4 ohms and it is just fine.

In a near future, I plan to add 2 other subs. I think the feeling is better with multiple subs than with a big one.

JP

Re: Pearless XXLS 12 with passive radiator

Hello, I just want to let you know that I am working to add 2 other subwoofers in my setup. I just recieve the drivers last friday and the building process has started yesterday. I get another RB-1080 verry cheap (for that kind of amp!) on ebay last week. Will post some pictures soon.

Two subwoofer is so nice, four will be awsome I think !

Just to be clear, I do not want more power, I have plenty bass with 2 subs, but I want to extend the sweet spot and have the room balanced.

JP

Are your new drivers the same sub as before, the Peerless XXLS 12?

Re: Pearless XXLS 12 with passive radiator

JP,

may I ask you to quote which levels of active equalisation/filters you use in order to flatten the bass response of the subs? How deep are they going? When I use WinISD to simulate your configuration (40l, 18Hz) the result looks somewhat disappointing with an F3 of above 40 Hz.

How about the group delay?

I need one/two rather small subs, and I am thinking of building these ones.

Best Regards from Frankfurt/Germany

Michael
