thoughts on Rl-s 12" for HT use

Hey everybody, I have a Rl-s 12 in a sealed box that I use in my car, but Im thinking about making a box for it and using it in my HT instead. Im new to DIY speakers, how hard it it to make a enclosure that will really sound good? I know the Soundsplinter drivers are capable of awesome low level sound, but would it be hard for a newbie to really get the most out of it? Could I come out with better sound using that driver and a DIY enclosure than I could just buying a pre-made sub that would cost about the same amount? Lastly what type of enclosure do you guys recomend for that driver in HT use? I appricait any thoughts, ideas, advise... thanks alot

The linearity and low distortion of the RL-s is quite impressive. The downside to this particular driver requires large sealed or IB applications for optimal performance. Going DIY typically gives you excellent value, beating out commercial products that far exceed the cost of the DIY approach. Will it be easy to build a subwoofer cabinet for your RL-s? Should be.

I would just go with a generously sized sealed cab on that driver. Might be kind of hard to port it properly. It models a little differently from a normal driver, but models are just that anyway.

The general consensus has been to use the RL-P's for HT, do to some of the specifications.

Thanks for the input. I already own the RL-s so if I used any drive that would be it. What kind of issues do those drivers have with HT use that you were speaking of?

That driver is more is ideal for small sealed boxes. The RL-P likes larger ported designs with tunings down to the 14Hz area.
