Re: need cheap pro EQ help

I don't understand what you're trying to do.

1) Do you want a rumble filter aka subsonic filter, which is implemented as a highpass filter to protect the sub from over excursion?

2) Are you looking for EQ to smooth in room response?

What are the particulars of the setup? Sub? Amp used? Etc.

qsc 1450hd [piece of junk] jbl 15inch 10 cf sub tuned to 22 hz after tuning it bottoms out need to high pass it so he can get more out of it . it is a [piece of junk] but it works for his needs at this time . will upgrade in the future . i personaly run a sm1 on my tc 2000 's . just looking at witch eq is a better choice looking for any pro audio guy that have used some eq's that might be able to say stay away from that one or this one should work good with a sub .

Re: need cheap pro EQ help

Which JBL? Got T/S parameters? That's a lot of amp in a big box. Just a guess without seeing any models or knowing the Xmax of that JBL, there's a good chance an SS filter really isn't going to help. With a ported box, there's also an excursion peak just a little above the tuning frequency. In your case, that would be in the mid 30s, where a lot of content lives. What content is causing the bottoming?

As far as using an EQ for the SS filter. Unless the device explicitly has an SS filter, you'll need multiple EQ bands below 20hz to accomplish this. Otherwise, Elemental Designs is bringing out a dual band PEQ box that will also have a user adjustable SS filter for $99...not sure of a ship date. Kevin at DIYCable, is working on the Woofer Widget, which will also have some sort of user adjustable SS filter, but price is projected to be around $300.

Re: need cheap pro EQ help

Hi
i have just received a peq-2200 ( ultra q ) today which i bought of ebay too,
it has the same variable low and high cut that the 3102 has or very similar, it does a good job and cuts all sub bass under the frequency desired so would image will help no end if you are trying to protect you sub (s).
The eqs are too bad ethier.
Its not as clean sounding as a bfd but good anyhow.

I also have a couple of cx-3400 crossovers which cut at 25 Hz, they work well also and still leave plenty of decent sounding bass.

Sorry, I didn't realize these devices actually intentionally contain high pass filters. I'm surprised I've never seen them mentioned before when folks have asked for recommendations on a subsonic filter.

From a quick read, I'd say go with the UltraQ of the units you listed. The parametric EQ will have more flexibilty if you want to try to do some room EQ based on measurements from something like REW.

Re: need cheap pro EQ help

i was thinking the parametric would be a good choice also and is probably quiter at doing its job . ya most pro eqs have a high and low pass because pro audio does not usualy run anything under 30 hz. i just did not want to buy one that has alot of noise or does not work very well . i had a 8024 and it had alot of digital noise .

Re: need cheap pro EQ help

The peq ultra q seems to be fairly quiet, some of the noise depends on the age and if the unit is secondhand.

The low cut however works very well, it starts at 10 hz and seems to cut all from the frequency point.

The pdf file is available at behringer.

I think you will be pretty happy with the unit, i 've only used mine once so far on friday as i need more cables and am going to use it on an extra sub, but it seemed ok and sure it will do a decent job.
