| TC-2000 15" Build Complete w/pics Hi all I am finally getting around to putting together a post on my T-2000 build. This is the first larger post that I have put together so hopefully it will not look to awful! When I started this project my goal was to design a decent sounding sub mainly for HT but with the ability to do a decent job with popular music. Since all TV/HT watching is done in our living room which attaches to the dining room I needed something that would look good and fit in to the room. So... no 8' tower with multiple drivers sprayed black! I had a very specific space that the unit needed to fit into so I had to sacrifice some low end performance in order to fit into the space. After doing a fair amount of research I decided on the TC-2000 driver due to cost, performance and the beautiful aluminum cone. Again, before this turns into a threadcrap about performance technicalities let me say again that this project was a mix of aesthetics and performance. I used a Behringer EP1500 amp with a modded clean box for power (have not modded the fan yet). At this time I do not have any equipment to measure actual response, all I have are my ears. According to my ears it sounds great! I am very happy with it. Rumbles the house during movies and hits cleanly even with music. The next post will be of build pics. I could go on typing pages of details but I think it might be better to answer questions as they arise. Cheers Jon ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by jkoll42; 03-02-08 at 01:37 PM. | |||

| Re: TC-2000 Build Complete w/pics Thanks for all the compliments! I am really happy with the way it turned out. I can't say enough about the quality of veneer and personal help from veneersupplies.com. The owner is very knowledgable and helpful. He even answered an email late on a Sunday night. I ended up using a paperbacked ribbon stripe mahogany. | |||

| Re: TC-2000 Build Complete w/pics tundrasq - sorry I missed your question! The size was a combination of fooling with modeling software and necessity of fitting into a very specific space. I only had a certain space between my TV stand and an exterior wall. One of the hardest parts of the build was figuring out how to get everything to fit without hitting inside. Between the speaker basket and the 6" port tube things got tight. It really sounds great. Very smooth and clean and it really hits deep. Shakes the walls, windows, pictures, various other things.... I was actually surprised that it is quite musical for popular/rock music. Good tight kick drums, etc. | |||

Thanks man - It really does still have some decent low end. I know I could have pulled some more out of the speaker, but it just would have gotten to be too large of a cabinet for me. I think after looking at FR graphs for days on end 1DB is a big deal on paper but not really in real life! | ||||

| Re: TC-2000 Build Complete w/pics Jon, that looks beautiful. I love the pattern and colour of the veneer/stain you chose. I would probably be staring at the sub more than the movie! That front driver side is gorgeous. I like the feet too, what did you use? Are they some kind of PVC creation, or are they rubber? | |||

| Re: TC-2000 Build Complete w/pics Thanks OJ The feet are from http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=240-715 Pretty nice part - they are solid brass, really heavy. A bit tough to get the "pads" directly under the spike with such a heavy box! I thought the wife was going to lose a hand ![]() The only issue I had was the floor was slightly lower under one spike - just enough to cause a buzz that took days to diagnose. I was sure the port was loose inside and would have to disassemble, but in the end a dime under the foot evened things out. No more buzz! | |||

| Re: TC-2000 Build Complete w/pics Nice sub! Did you use the iron-on glue method for the veneer? I tried it with non-backed ebay veneer and wasn't very successful; I imagine it would've been much easier with the paper backing. | |||

| Re: TC-2000 Build Complete w/pics I ended up using http://www.veneersupplies.com/produc...4d54dbdbd0ab3b Really easy to use - rolled on and then used a scraper to set the bond. Paper back is definitely easier to work with. Tougher to get really exotic or highly figured veneer but much easier! Joe was so good at answering questions at veneersupplies - really a great resource ![]() | |||
