What frequency were you boosting and by how much?

Mike, it was these settings. I think he said it was for a 14hz HPF...

You previously mentioned the HPF was at 10 hz. Download the manual, read up on the unit so you understand how it works and set it for your application.

How does the sub sound now with no EQ?

Yes, I had tried both the 10hz HPF and the 14hz HPF just out of curiosity. Both still bottomed out on the higher fc's. The sub seems to sound better without the EQ (didn't bottom out as bad), but it still has the same problem. It seems it may have helped a little bit, but not much.

If you're running the amp in bridged mode then try just one channel. Are you using test tones to determine what frequencies the problem is at?

I will try that now. Do I keep the HPF at 14hz? And I will check the test tones on it.

HPF at 14hz and no boost. Short burst with the test tones with a break in between the tones or you will burn the voice coils.

Re: 7.6 cu.ft Maelstrom- X 18" build

It seems like at a 30hz sine wave that its hitting its Xmax or very close to it running on one channel. It also moved my box back and forth really quick haha. Trying 20hz, and 25hz or so now, short bursts.

20hz test tones=

On the 25hz test tone, it seemed like it hit its Xmax again. On the 20hz one, I can't crank it up enough to see haha. I'll make sure I try it once my mom leaves the house lol.

Ok. On the 20hz test tone, the amp would clip before it hit its Xmax. It was close again to it though.

Kinda. The EQ/In/Out light isn't light up. Just the "Low Cut" and the "x0.1" inbetween the Frequency and the Octave Bandwidth switches are light up

Disconnect the EQ unit from your setup. Use only the EP2500 and the receiver. Do the 30 hz tone again with only one channel of the amp.

Ok. My receiver doesn't have the needed voltage to run the EP though. Will that matter?

Re: 7.6 cu.ft Maelstrom- X 18" build

It still runes without the input voltage being boosted. The 30hz tone lookes like it was within the Xmax region. Now, the amp just clips if I go any higher. Strange thing though. I still have the hum problem. It must be my Pre-Out channel RCA cable or the receiver itself right?

Edit: I ran the 30hz wave again, and it looked like it was at Xmax. It sounded like it was distorting.

Either you study the EQ manual to make sure only the HPF is engaged or get someone who knows. Until then is there another receiver you can get to swap out the Insignia?

Re: 7.6 cu.ft Maelstrom- X 18" build

I have a few receivers, but they are all hooked up and to tell you the truth, very much of a pain to get to. If I have one out soon, am I trying new ones to see if the hum goes away, or if it stops bottoming out on the 30hz tone?

Lil Burn One- Drug Money (slowed) sounds awesome. On one channel, its close to the Xmax on the low notes on the song. I do not agree with anything that that song is saying though. I just thought it had cool bass in it haha.

Re: 7.6 cu.ft Maelstrom- X 18" build

Your test with a 30 hz tone with one channel of the amp proves the sub is not bottoming out and it is nowhere near its rated Xmax. In your box size and tuning it would take 3500 watts just to reach Xmax at 30hz, and sub bottoming out is well beyond that. The issue is either the amp or the receiver since the EQ unit was taken out of the loop. Let us know when you try a different receiver.

How could I test the EP if it is causing my problems?

Also, on the 30hz tone, it didn't look like it was too close to Xmax, it was distorting though. And the amp wasn't clipping.

That's why I suggested you swap out the Insignia to see if it's the problem.

Re: 7.6 cu.ft Maelstrom- X 18" build

I toted the sub and amp out to another receiver. The hum problem was even worse. Also, it was still distorted on the 30hz tone. It looked about the same Xmax wise, and the amp wasn't clipping. I will have to admit, a 10hz test tone was pretty awesome in the living room (a HPF was used here...). It's a really big room, yet it was shaking EVERYTHING in it. Including the stuff outside also.

Now where does the problem lie do you think???

Did you try th 30 hz tone with just the new reciever and not with the EQ unit?
