Good News --- Anarchy Shipping Early

Good news.... something is ahead of schedule for once.

The Anarchy should ship around the 10th, it will still take 3-weeks to get across the water and through customs but I should have them at the beginning of December, plenty of time for Christmas.

The bad news, I won't have all the speaker designs done for them right away. I don't pop out loudspeaker designs like I do subwoofer designs because.... well the loudspeaker is more complicated. I do a lot of listening and tweaking so it takes me a bit longer to be happy with a design and call it done.

I DO need to finalize on the low-budget tweeter.

My pick for low-cost, just from the seat of the pants at the moment as I don't have any measurements.

At $11 each, I think this is about as cheap as you can realistically get and still have a reliable device that can crossover fairly low, has reasonable performance and it is from a manufacture that has a reliable track-record for consistency. The round shape allows for easy DIY flush mounting, and the small form factor allows for good center-center spacing when used in MTM arrangements.

Looks good! I'm in on this as well!

Also, Kevin, I know your plate is full...but I bet a dipole design for a 7.1 system would be very popular!

I'm planning on the following:

With the low-cost Vifa Tweeter:

MT monitor design in the 0.5 ft^3 PE enclosure.
MTM center channel design in the 1 ft^3 PE enclosure

These are going to be "unsupported designs". What does that mean? It means that I won't answer questions about the builds, or give you help. I won't be making any money off these so there is no way I can spend all day helping people and answering questions. What you get, is a free design and I'm giving away the expensive part, which is the Anarchy midwoofer and the design work.

I have a family to feed and bills to pay so there is only so much I can give away for free.

Kevin......could you PM me a price to do a design......if it's something you'd be interested in.....I'm not sure.

Thanks.

It would depend upon the details. In general, I put a fair amount of time into doing a loudspeaker design. I can shoot and measure and model and pop out a design fairly quickly but I'm picky about the final design and spend some time playing with them. On average, I spend a couple weeks to a month listening to a design and playing around with the crossover before I call it "done". If I had to charge for my time, it would be very expensive.

Translation: I'm not real efficient at doing them quickly. Mainly because it is a labor of love for me and I just cannot bring myself to doing a quick and dirty job on a loudspeaker design. Subwoofers are much easier.

I'm sure once these get started, the builders and the knowledge they share will probably support these for you. At least, that's how things seem to go here in the Shack forums.

I think that means, you better have a fat wallet I can't blame him. What that also means is this driver is probably bad___ because he's a perfectionist type. BuzzardMtn, there is a lot of interest in these little rebels, so I think many HTS members will be involved in designing/building typical builds. With that said, I hope someone has the idea to build a full 5.0 system, using TMMM 2.5way tower mains... besides me!

So, you'll be building the low-cost tweeter designs first, followed by the mid-cost and high-cost designs? In that is the case, should we wait to purchase the anarchy's for a few months if we're interested in mid-cost tweeter builds, or multiple driver builds?

Re: Good News --- Anarchy Shipping Early

I have measurements already on the Seas DXT MT so I'll put together a design based upon that first. I'll order a pair of the Vifa tweeters and I'll build a set of the MTs, take measurements and prototype the designs over the next couple months. That is all I'm committing to out of the gate. I have too much on my plate as it is. I'm one guy so I just don't have the ability to clone myself and do fifteen different speaker builds, run a business and do everything else I do during the day. It just isn't going to happen.

I'm sure others will document speaker designs using the Anarchy. The woofers will be cheap enough that I'm sure there will be plenty of builds in the DIY community. That is the way it should be and that is what DIY is all about. Cheap parts, with lots of community involvement and you don't have to pay for the design work because someone will be willing to do it for free.

I gotcha Kevin, I was just wondering what your tentative plans were-thanks. Good to hear the drivers are coming in earlier than you expected- are you going to be taking pre-orders to help you out with getting these out the door before Christmas, or just awaiting their arrival and posting on your site for sale?

I don't do pre-orders. When I have them in stock, they will be on the web site and I'll give everyone plenty of notice.

I'd buy them quick when they get in stock. I'm anticipating that they will sell out fairly quick. I'll place another order once I have capital to do so but I think there will be more demand than supply for the first six months or so. Just a guess though....

Just make sure you set aside a few of those drivers for the giveaway!

I had a feeling that's what you'd say.........

I wasn't trying to come off pushy (used smilies)....if that's the way it seems/seemed.......

Thanks for the response.

Hey... no pushiness taken.

Also... the answer is yes, I'd do a custom design but the cost would be high. I don't make money on the drivers so I'd have to charge for my labor which would be substantial. Not Wilson Watt Puppy substantial but it would cost a chunk of change.

I have to slay one dragon at a time so I'll do a couple designs out of the gate. Over time I'll add more but it isn't something where I'll crack out 15 designs in a month. I'm just trying to set expectations.

Re: Good News --- Anarchy Shipping Early

I like your taste in cheap tweeters, mainly because I have 4 of them unused within spitting distance! So that's another project on my plate, can I ask again whether the Anarchy will be available from Australia? I've not noticed an answer. If it's going to have to be the next production run, consider this registered enthusiasm.

Cheers!
