Good evening all ,

I just replace my old onkyo with the tx-nr709 which have audyssey XT

I have been reading lots of different opinions regarding rew and XT. Some say that XT has more filters threfore will do an excellent job so rew is no longer needed , others are saying to use rew to tame large peak then use xt which will perform better and do a better job.

So who is right in that debate? Should i discard rew completely and solely rely on audyssey XT or still use REW first then apply XT ?

Thank you very much for your wisdom

I'm seriously considering getting the CSS Quartet 10 kit, as I want deep bass extension in a small(ish) box.

The only think holding me back is that I also want the bass to be "musical" rather than just plain loud - since my system is mainly for music at the moment.

Can someone please give an opinion on how the Quartet 10 suits for musical listening in comparison to a sealed box design?

Hi all.

I suppose the first question should be, am I doing this right?

Recently, I setup a home theater (7.2 audio) in my basement. The room is 13 feet wide and about 23 feet long. The screen is on one of the 13 foot walls.

I downloaded REW to try to understand my listening area better and see if there was anything I could or should do to improve it. I have a Radioshack SPL meter, configured my soundcard and, I think, set the REW preferences correctly.

The first measurement showed a dip around 60 hz. Both subs were initially set along the front wall. After some research, it seemed that this wasn't going to be the best configuration.

I moved one of the subs to the side wall about half way up and remeasured. The 2nd measurement looks like it smoothed out the 60 hz dip.

This is a good result isn't it? I should leave the sub here?

What to do about the dip at 127 hz or anything else for that matter? Not sure if I am approaching this correctly.

Thanks.

I bought a pa500 amp from css. I've been told I should ask for some help on here about dimensions for this build. The sonotube is 16" diameter and the pvc ill be using is 6" diameter. Any help is greatly appreciated.

OK, one of the Dr.'s at work buy's some Monster Z-Series Bi-Wire speaker cables on Audiogon. He get them & the spades are stretched out & his amp wont hold them, so he buy's some Monter banana plugs & asks me if I can put them on for him. I say sure, get them home, strip the wire back & there is too much wire to fit inside the banans.

My question is, does anybody make oversized banana plugs that will accomodate large wire? He wants the wires twisted together (does not want bi-wired) which results in a very large wire.

It's been nearly a month since we saw the Roku 2 and LT get hit with some performance-boosting updates, and now the pair's about to be on the receiving end of some additional enhancements. Version 4.7 -- which is also coming to that new Roku HD -- brings with it a slew of improvements, including refined stability for the aforementioned player and a sharpened device discovery method on the company's Android / iOS applications. Inside v4.7, Roku's also added support for channels using Microsoft Smooth Streaming as well as other improvements to help with launch of "several new partner channels" later this year. The refresh is set to arrive automatically over the next 48 hours, though you could always grab it manually by hitting the Software Update menu on your tiny box.
