I live in Minnesota, and I'm very happy that Google listed this site when I looked for "room equalizers" last week. I've been doing a lot of reading about how to use the REW software, and I'm looking forward to trying it to see if I can improve my listening experience. Here's a little bit of my background:

I've been very interested in audio gear and listening to music in general since I built a Heathkit amplifier back in the 70's. I like most types of music, but I'd say my favorite is guitar music. I like Leo Kotke, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Santana and most other rock and blues artists. I think Santana started my interest in this area with his Abraxas album back in the early 70's.

I used the Heathkit for a number of years, and I still have it tucked away in a corner. I upgraded in the late 80's / early 90's to a Carver receiver and a couple of B&W speakers. I fell in love with the Carver's "Sonic Holography" sound processing. I really enyed the depth and breadth of the music that it produced.

Maybe 5 years or so ago I started accumulating gear for what would eventually become our home theater / listening room. I really wanted to continue to have the sonic holography, so my current system includes a Sunfire ultimate receiver II. I added a HSU TN1220 HO sub and amp, and 5 B&W speakers for the front and surround. I'll probably add some equalization at some point in the future depending on what REW shows. It's all a lot of fun and I really enjoy fiddling around with things.

I'm looking forward to participating in the forums in the future.

Anyway, my name is Jared and I'm from Minnesota. I have long believed in the saying "why buy it if you can build it yourself", and I'm finding home theater no different.

I currently have an Optoma EP739, an Onkyo 7.1 surround system and a PS/2 as my DVD/CD player. It's all fairly dated hardware that I've picked up over the years but it works for me, for the time being anyway.

Our downstairs family room area is 25'x10', and I'm currently designing the room. I have several questions about the room as I get started designing and building the room, but I'll try to get those in the right forum.

I am happy to have found this resource online and I look forward to participating. Actually, I'm a recording studio owner in central NC, who's been at a studio build far too long... but hopefully I'm FINALLY in the short rows and should be getting final inspections and my CO within the next few weeks.

I originally joined, looking for Room EQ Wizard, but that's not the ONLY reason...

We have a very unique property here, and I'm looking for assistance in building a small outdoor "home theater", so my clients can have a unique setting in which to unwind and relax... as well as enjoy such things as sporting events and special programming.

I think it will be a fun, but challenging project.

But the fun won't stop there, I can assure you...

TheBoss© (my wife) is also wanting a small home theater set up in our basement so she can totally immerse herself in her favorite horror flicks and chick flicks. (I'm actually starting to learn some of the lines from Jane Austin and Little Women.... ooof!)

I know a lot of the acoustics and soundproofing techniques that it takes to build a nice sounding room. So, I hope my experience there will be a "tradeable" commodity for getting up to speed on the home theater side of the equation.

I look forward to getting to know some of the folks here.

I have been designing & building loudspeakers for over 20 years & just wished i'd had internet access & WinISD back in the day. Obviously i have an HT system which is part & parcel of the hifi setup, still assembling it all actually, i hope to get to where i want to be going inside of a year or so :foottap:

I found this great forum via google & DIY Audio forum, when i was looking up on information on various Danley tapped horns including the DTS10. Someones going to be rocking the house literally!

Good to be here anyway, i'll hopefully get to get some pictures up of a loudspeaker & sub build that should be going ahead next year. Meanwhile i'll probably be asking a few questions & helping out if i can.
