Ok, Here is my first post and help would be greatly appreciated,

I need help deciding what will be best for my setup. I will be buying an Onkyo ht-s6100 very shorty and i currently have two tv's in use, a 40" sony bravia and a 32" Vizio. I would like to use the Onkyo only with the Sony tv. I have three things that i would like split between the two tvs.

Xbox 360, Blu ray, and cablevision's io tv.

What I am realy looking for is a 4x2 or 3x2 HDMI splitter that can split good enough audio for 7.1 surround to work on the Sony, and have the tv speakers work on the Vizio. I have been looking at several 4x2's but i hear their reviews and it seems that they do not pass audio.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone,

This is my first ever post here. Forgive me if anyone has ever answered my question. Now I am trying to set up a Karaoke system like the attachment. The confusion comes from the connection between yamaha mixer and onkyo receiver.

Yamaha mixer has stereo TRS output(L and R) in yellow. Onkyo has RCA input(L and R). I tried to google them and I didn't find any cable for this connection.

Yamaha mixer manual:
Any way to solve this problem? Much appreciated for your help!

Hi,

Ive been looking at different ways of getting HD HDMI audio from my computer. Either I can get an HDMI sound card, or there are graphics cards which output both audio and video on HDMI.

Which of these ways would strike you as better? The graphics card would suit me better because both audio and video are on the same cable, but im concerned the quality of the audio coming out of a graphics card wouldnt be up to par compared with the audio from a dedicated sound card. However, if I go for the new sound card, I need a way to combine the graphics card HDMI and sound card HDMI into one cable.

I am starting to enjoy some of the new features that have come to market with the convergence craze of the last few years. ...

I am starting to enjoy some of the new features that have come to market with the convergence craze of the last few years. As I am enjoying streaming Netflix to my PS3 and Apple Lossless to my AppleTV I am beginning to wonder what other cool pieces of technology that I am missing out on by not having my net-workable AVR and DirecTV HD-DVR set up on my network. My room isn't wired for CAT5, and my DSL router is another the second floor where the office and main computers are. I am hesitant to try to run cable through walls/ceilings and therefore haven't bothered with it other than running my sub cable and inwall speaker cable for surrounds when I had to have the walls opened up for a water leak from a bad piece of flashing.

Being a bit slow, I just finally began researching a wireless Ethernet bridge as a possible solution for getting my non-wireless yet net-workable devices onto the home network. I currently have a :Denon AVR-4306 that can be used for internet radio and the DVR mentioned before. I am also looking at changing from the AVR-4306 to a Pioneer SC-27 and am intrigued by the Home Media Group capabilities the Pioneer offers. My other two devices (PS3 and AppleTV) have built in wireless capabilities, which is how they are being used currently.

This leads me to a couple questions that hopefully some of the more seasoned convergence gurus can answer.

1) Are multiple wireless devices working in close proximity to each other degrading their capabilities? All of my equipment is in a Salamander Synergy Triple equipment stand, which is enclosed. The location of the equipment and stand are fixed for various reasons.

2) Is it possible to have a switch or a router connected to a single Ethernet bridge (I am looking at the Linksys that cab be found here

        Linksys WET610N

Amazon

)? I was hoping to use one bridge and a switch or router to feed at least the AVR and DVR.

3) If the answers to #1 & #2 are yes, then would there be any advantage to running the AppleTV and PS3 through the router or switch as well? This is mainly inspired by question #1. The Linksys states it can connect to the wireless router at 5 GhZ which is a different, and less used, frequency than the current 2.4GhZ the PS3 is currently on (I don't know where exactly the AppleTV is falling in the realm here).

4) Would it be just best to cough up a couple extra bucks and buy two wireless bridges, one for each device?

5) Any other suggestions for Ethernet bridges that may work better than the Linksys that are around the same price?

Thanks for the help, and I hope I put this in the right sub-forum.

Hi Everybody,

Hopefully this is the correct place for this new post as I am new to Home Theatre Shack. I could not find thread on DHC 9.9.
I just bought a new Panasonic projector and electric screen. I have mounted a flat screen tv behind the projector screen. My question is, with my DHC 9.9 processor is there a way to play BLU ray source to a specific monitor i.e projector screen or tv? In the daytime I would like to use my t.v and in the evening use the projector. Therefore, I would like to toggle between one and the other. Is there a way to toggle between monitor out and monitor sub out on DHC 9.9 easily? By the way , I am using HDMI cable for input and output.

Thanks for any input guys,

I'm getting a high pitched hum from my speakers whenever my stereo is turned on. I have a Sony STRDG720 and a set of Cambridge Soundworks satellite speakers (2.1). I've had the speakers for about 12 years, and the stereo for a little less than a year. I had no problems with this setup from January to May of this year, but when I set it up again after moving to a new place in May, this hum appeared. It isn't so terrible that I can use the system anyway, but it's very noticeable when the other sounds coming through are quiet.

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on how best to troubleshoot this problem. I don't currently have another pair of speakers or a receiver to test against. Thanks.

OK....so I decided to get rid of my 5 year old Phillips 42 inch Plasma, and move into an updated set-up.

So, I purchased a Sony-BRAVIA XBR 46" Class / 1080p / 240Hz / LCD HDTV-KDL-46XBR9, Sony-Blu-ray Disc Player with 1080p Output-BDP-S360, and the final touch of a Sony-BRAVIA 1000W 5.1-Channel Home Theater System-HT-SS360.

I have the following configuration: Blu-ray HDMI out to AV receiver HDMI in, Top-Box-SAT HDMI out going to AV receiver in, and AV receiver HDMI out going into HDMI #1 of TV. Also, Optical out of TV into AV receiver audio in.

System works great. Sound, picture, DVDs/Blu-rays...awesome!!! The problem is, the primary reason I went with these Bravia components; aside from the ability to hook everything HDMI, was the "sync" feature offered by Sony. I thought it was a great way to go, and for the most part it is. The problem is in trying to get the components to "sync" via HDMI.

I went to Sony, and followed their advice of unplugging all components from eachother and the electrical outlet about 50 times, finally getting the TV to "find" the Blu-ray and receiver...but the TV will not "sync" them. AND, after finally getting the TV to find the components, when I turned the TV off, they were "gone" from the HDMI component list. BIG headache, but I want so bad to lessen the amount of remotes required, and have a seamless system.

Does anybody have a thought or suggestion? I watched 300 last night, Blu-ray.....what can i say except...SWEET! !!!! The persian were in big trouble! LOL

Any advice or assistance woud be greatly appreciated.

Best,

OK..So I was thinking about this and wondering if anyone has done this. Having 2 sets of each speaker to get a fuller surround sound (7.1 would actually be 13.2)? Like 1 center, 2 FR, 2 FL, 2 SR, 2 SL, 2 SBR and 2 SBL. And 2 subs. I'm guessing you'd need to run multiple amps or rcvrs off each speaker. So you'd run your FR to a rcvr then run your RT and LT to the 2 FR speakers and so on. You'd need like 6 rcvrs? Does that make sense? This would be for a larger room like 12' wide by 21' long. It just seems like this set up would make a truer surround system? Or am I just way off base?

BTW..I have a projector with a 120" screen. Seating distance to the screen is 13ft.

I have recently bought a new TV which is a Samsung UE40B7020. As most new TVs it has lots of different connections available, but mainly newer HDMI slots etc.

I also have a sky + box, which connects to the TV via a scart cable (no HDMI) and a sony dvd/surround sound system (SR4W) which also connects to the TV via scart.

Unfortunately the TV only has 1 scart socket but I thought I could solve this by using an automatic scart switch.

This works fine for switching between watching sky and dvd.

However I am unsure how to make the surround sound work with all inputs.

At the moment I have a digital optical lead going from the sky box to the surround sound. Now I can either get sky on the tv or through surround sound but not both (as the scart switch gives preference to the home theatre system when I switch it on)

I have tried connecting the digital optical lead to go from the tv to the surround sound but I get no sound output when I’m viewing sky I also think that I cant get 5.1 sound this route anyway?

The only solution I’ve found so far is to disconnect the dvd/surround sound from the scart switch when I want to watch sky with surround sound (leaving the digital optical from the sky box to the surround sound.

This is a pain and means I may as well not have bought the scart switch as I now have to manually plug in the dvd when I want to watch a film.

Otherwise it looks like I need to buy a new sky box or home theatre system with an HDMI output.

Or is there any other option that I am not aware of?????????????? I’m not sure if I could use the audio jacks in any way?

Hope this all makes sense and someone can help!

Hey fellow Shacksters!
I'm having a problem connecting my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop to my Denon AVR-4308CI via an HDMI cable. My problem is, when I connect my laptop to my Denon using the TV/Cable HDMI connection on my Denon, I can get a picture, but I can't get sound.
To make sure my Laptop supports HDMIa, I hooked it dirrectly to my Samsung DLP in the HDMI input #2, and I got both sound and video.
I switched it back to the Denon 4308CI again in the HDMI input on the back of the receiver labeled TV/Cable, and its not showing that there's an audio connection via the front panel display on my Denon receiver.
For example; if you switch to DVD, the left side of the display will show 5.1 coming in, 6.1 on most blu rays, and since I have a 7.1 config, it shows 7.1 on the right side representing my connected speakers (if this makes sense).
So does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or not doing to get both sound and a picture through my 4308ci?:hissyfit::help:

hello all,

id like to ask you all for some wiring/configuration help to make sure i don't end up blowing any of my equipment. I am going to try to explain everything in as much detail as i understand, which is hopefully enough to help you understand what it is i need help with.

My equipment

1) Two 12" shiva-x's (http://www.diycable.com/main/product...roducts_id=653)
2) EP2500 amp
3) Denon - AVR-1609
4) Sealed dual 12" enclosure about 1.5cubic each chamber. (to be upgraded eventually)

Okay, it is my understanding after reading the pdf that goes with my speakers (http://www.diycable.com/main/pdf/shiva_docs.pdf)
that I can wire the dual 8ohm voice coils together in parallel to drop it to 4ohms. Then by connecting voice coil from speaker A to the voice coil in speaker B in parallel i can then drop them down to 2 ohms. Being that these subs are being used for music only, and my amp can handle the 2 ohm load, id like to do this.

At this point in time, i have the + connected to the + and the - connected to the - on each speaker individually. I then have 1 wire for each the positive and negative which will run to the terminal plate on the enclosure. (as seen below)

http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/4...0910251842.jpg

Question 1: so now each driver will be powered by 4 ohms correct?

the terminal plate on my enclosure resembles this one:
http://i16.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/d9/de/378a_10.JPG

now, how exactly do i wire my terminal plates to wire both voice coils in parallel, dropping it to the needed 2 ohms?

also where do they hook up to the back of the amp?
(which black and red knob do i use?)
