Is there a way to calibrate the mic preamp so that it can be eliminated from the effects?

I've done three measurements: One with the RS Meter into the sound card; one with a calibrated mic into a mixer and then into the sound card; and last, a calibrated mic into a Rane Mic Preamp and then into the sound card. The first two have virtually identical results but using the Rane preamp, the graph falls off to being down about 10db at 12 hz starting from about 50Hz.

Any suggesgtions?

I am new here so I would like to say 'hallo' to everyone.

I have a question regarding other than Galaxy SPL meters and the misterous (for me ;)) calibration file.

I am not able to get Galaxy MC-140 here in Poland (amazon won't ship here) however there are a lot of other SPL meters on the local market.

Can I use them with REW? How to create calibration file then? Should I apply for one to the producer?

For example:
CEM DT-8851 (please paste the name to google as I am not allowed to paste links :()
or

CEM DT-8850

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi all,
Newby question. I apologize if this question has been addressed previously.
I purchased a RadioShack 33-4050 so that I can get started with REW and will down load the appropiate file.
I also have two B&K 4007 Measurement Mics with factory calibration charts that I would prefer to use.
Is it possible to transfer the factory data to a spread sheet or whatever file type that REW uses?
I have a Crown 48v PS and mixer for a line out to my PC. (XP with Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro)
I also have an Audio Control SA-3050A Spectrum Analyzer. It doesn't have a line out but the mic seems to be a good one.
My main use of REW is to help me deal with some room issues.

Thanks, and many cheers,
The other 'mic' i have is the old RS analog meter, which works fine but it would be nice if i could use the new mic.

So is there a Cal file out there for it? is it a generic of some other mic that has a cal file?

Dear all,
I would like to calibrate my USB soundcard TASCAM US 122 L. I am running some laboratory experiments where I use two AKG CK77WR plugged into the TASCAM. While the mikes have been calibrated and their sensitivity and frequency response is known, I would also need to measure the response of the sound card.
I understand that the REW software can be used for this purpose. I have read the on-line manual etc. Everything about how to use the software is very clear. However, I would need some sort of tutorial on how to setup connections, the type of cables that I will need, etc ...
My apologies if this sounds quite basic for many of you.
I am really new to sound measurements and still have a lot to learn. Hope that someone can point me in the right direction.
Thank you for your help.

I was looking at the necessary components to begin measuring my system and saw that the recommended mic preamp is the XENYX 802. I was browsing Behringer's website and came across the XENYX 502 which appears to be able to do the things we need. The price is also $15 less. Is there any reason that the 802 is specifically recommended over the 502? Is it because of the highlighted text below in the 802's description?

XENYX 502

I've been reading a lot on the ECM8000 mic (and others like the Galaxy, etc.) and it's quite confusing whether it's worth the extra $25-30 to get a calibrated one. Many people use the uncalibrated mics with success and the same goes for calibrated mics. I guess my question is: does the added expense of calibration make it a worthwhile purchase? (Yes, I know it's small and I should probably stop worrying about $25!)
