Here is my build thread for the Maelstrom 21. I'll try to provide enough quality pics during my build for you.

I'm using Kevin's Maelstrom 21"er with the passive radiator design. I normally don't like building a passive radiator sub with a Qts over .4, but it is so close, I won't have a problem.

Here's the deal....23" x 23" x 60"; 10 cubes and 15 hz box tuning. With the typical passive radiator design there is more of a roll off but at this already low box tuning, I'll have more than plenty of bass. I needed the height to add the three passive radiators on each side and it will match my main speaker's height. Better WAF here.

I just picked up the pallet of materials from my mill. My construction material is 1.25" mdf. It looked like I had ten bags of concrete in my truck going down the road. In the roll of plastic, I've got two sheets of Pionite black slate laminate to match all of my other speakers.

Cabinet resonance with this thick material; I don't think so. Moving it? Now that's another challenge.

Just got back from Houston with the materials so here is the first build pic:

I was trying to search for the thread that I saw where a guy said his horn sub (15") totally eclipsed his LLT sub in all area's.

Just wondering if the exodus audio subs have been used for this type of sub, or if its even possible?

Would the sealed boxes offer a better compromise for 50/50 HT/music purposes?
I haven't cut the port holes yet because I'm not quite sure how long they need to be to get to 20Hz or so without noise. Another option would be to just keep it sealed, how would that model out?

Ok... I don't run many sales on the Maelstrom-18" or 21" because they are typically in short supply. I have some need for cash, to pay for a couple big production runs so I'm having a TWO DAY ONLY sale to get some money into the coffers.

I built two Maelstrom subs with dual passive radiators in 9 cubic foot boxes and I purchased two Velodyne SMS-1 active crossovers for these subs. The instruction manual recommends setting the crossovers at 80 Hz because it is "the THX standard". My main speakers are rated to achieve 32 Hz. I read somewhere that subs should be crossed as low as possible. Since my main speakers are rated at 32 Hz, would it be better to cross around 40 Hz or lower instead of the recommended 80 Hz? I listen to 2-channel music only, no home theater.

Kevin or other knowledgeable persons. I plan on using the Tempest-X2 in my enclosure. The external dimensions are 18 x 20 x 52. The slot port is 3 x 18 x 44. Do you think the port dimensions are good? I could take some length off if neccessary. The driver and port will face the carpet floor(about 8" off the floor). What do I use for fill and how much of it do I need?

Thanks

I got 3/4" MDF the other day for a shiva-x2 build, and I am about to start cutting, but before I do, I would like to have you guys review my design first, since it is my first DIY build.

I chose the shiva-x2 with 2 PR package for my build over a tempest-x2 build because I prefer a smaller box (~4.5 cu ft internal volume vs over 9 cu ft internal volume) over the ~3 db and slightly deeper extension.

The internal volume will be ~4.5 cu ft, with the driver, prs, and braces in place. The PRs will have 8 discs (making about 1000g I believe) on them. The amp will be the dayton 500w from PE.

Here are some pictures of the finished box and the winisd graph.

Any suggestions? Also, should I line the inside with anything?

Im not sure if you can see my pictures here, so here is my post in avs forum.
