18" IB sub

Finalized the coils and specs for the 18 IB model.
Re 1.5 Ohms (single 2 Ohm)
Le .87mH
Fs 22.9 hz
Qms 3.25
Qes .79
Qts .63
Vas 381 l
Mms 258 g
Sd 1210 cm^2
Spl 89.4 1W/1m

Xmax is 30mm and suspension and motor limit right about at the same time.

Looking at about 2 weeks for the production run of coils and we will get stock built up on these.

At about 500-600 W it hits its linear limits at 20Hz. Power needs will vary accordingly.

Re: 18" IB sub

I heard about these and with there low price. Are these going to be an always available product? And is the $209 going to be promotional price or constant price?

Re: 18" IB sub

Yep, had qts and qes swapped around...fixed now

They will be a constant sub offered and that is the standard price, not promotional. Some who have done business with me learn that Im not about promotional pricing or preorders. We price product sensibly and leave them that way. This has been about the longest build up for a product we have had... and very little at that. Id simply rather just pop it up on the site than have months of spam about it. Only reason I really let this one out ahead of time is that I had quite a few inquiries for modded Qs and I told them to hold off as something less expensive, yet purpose built (with a teeny bit more Xmax) was on its way.

Thanks...
Scott

Re: 18" IB sub

Thats a light cone, 258 grams for the 18" model..

Makes me wonder what the BL of the motor is going to be?

The 15" model looks nice. I love fact it does not look like some blinged out car driver.

Re: 18" IB sub

Cone is fairly light and rigid. Its a newer curvilinear cone profile that we opened (as compared to the other 18" cone we use as standard). But, the coil is a 2 layer aluminum wind as well... not too much weight on that one either. These are a little more purpose built and really wont do anything but IB.

Yeah thats pretty evident from what you posted so far. (I did model it up in a 10cf sealed enclosure just for kicks)

I'm sure it won't need much BL in an IB application, but I was just curious.

Given the parameters and price point, I'd say you will be selling these like hotcakes.

Dr V

Re: 18" IB sub

Scott, in case you don't check your Pm's this is the pm I just sent you. I sent you a few emails as well but haven't seen any responses yet on those. In any event have a look! Hope to snatch four of these up soon!

Scott, my credit card is burning a hole in my pocket, ha ha. I'm ready to order four of your 18" IB subs so let me know how things are coming even if you can only do so briefly. I know I discussed with you via email (nfulford@hcea.com) that you may have some prototypes available but from how your thread reads on this forum it seems the production run should be available soon. Any updates for me on the production models? Let me know man, i'm hot to trot!!!

Re: 18" IB sub

How do these compare to the Q18s modified for IB I bought a couple of months ago?

Re: 18" IB sub

Toecheese... The Qs work phenominal for the IB application. These are not really any better or worse... just now a very specific motor and design that cuts down on some of the overkill that is built into the Q18s. Your Qs could handle significantly more than their rated IB power in a sealed or ported application... these IB18s are designed to take only the power they need to achieve results in an IB app (no 1000W+ power handling for these when they really only need a max of 600W). Hopefully no buyers remorse as you do have a very solid platform that can be converted to other applications if ever need be.

We now have 30 of them in stock and ready to ship. We came up a little short on the coil order (waiting for the balance) but made the single box we did receive.
Ill post a sticky with info for things...

Thanks,
Scott

Scott, are you guys located in Las Vegas? I have emailed several times to get a price quote, but I haven't recieved a response back, and no phone number is listed on your web site. Is there another way to contact you?

Re: 18" IB sub

I'm considering these for an IB build and have a question. What is the Xmech on these drivers. Is there much chance of bottoming these out, or will suspension limit the excursion?

Thanks,
Jonathon

Re: 18" IB sub

I believe it's pretty much where the suspension stops as well (30 mm).

Xmax is 30mm and suspension and motor limit right about at the same time.

Re: 18" IB sub

I am building my first IB and plan on using a pair of FI 18 IB's.

I am having a devil of a time trying to figure out how much power I need to drive these things (and yes, I do understand it is a function of frequency and SPL).

I have a couple of questions:

1. I plan on wiring the pair of FI 18 IB's in series. Am I correct that this will present a nominal 4ohm load? (Looks like Re says 1.5ohm but w/ a 2ohm coil, so I am confused).
2. How do I figure out (or is there a chart somewhere) that says if I am using a pair of them in series, that I run the risk of distortion/bottoming at ____. As an example, 500w into a pair of FI18s in series will bottom at 20Hz. Just trying to figure out if there is a formula I can apply to create my own graph.
3. Is there a way for me to figure out whether I need 100w, 500w, 1000w, etc. to drive the pair to get a flat curve at 90dB, 100dB, 110dB from 20Hz-80Hz?

Thanks, and sorry if my questions don't make perfect sense.

2 in a series will provide a 4 ohm load. 600w at 20hz will bottom one by itself.

Have a phone number for them? None is on their site.

I asked for that in one of my emails.

Thanks

Larry, Im not sure what your email is but I dont think we have overlooked anything recently... especially not 3 of them in the IB section. I was out of the country for business for a little while last week though... Ill check and see if I can find anything in the spam folder as well.

Thanks,
