Re: Install application for my Q18!

Since I am a car audio nut it would definatley have to go in my truck. I have been missing the sound form a big speaker for a long time. Ever since I went away from two 15s to save space I have been regretting it. I will probably build both a giant ported enclosure and a smaller sealed one, and see which reacts better to my interior.

Sure I'd make LLT-sonosub, I just have one extra 356 l tube lying on my garage floor...leftover from 90 l sealed with 15" training piece.

Re: Install application for my Q18!

Because I move often Im hoping for a lightly modded standard q18 for IB use. This would help out when it is an ib but still allow it to go ported if I move to a house that wont support an ib. This would be powered by my ep2500 that I got for $250 thanks to the shack!

Re: Install application for my Q18!

I'd modify the existing ~7 cubic feet enclosure (it's ported as of now with a 15 inch Dayton DVC), seal it off, and put the 18" in there. It only has a 250w amplifier in there right now so I may need to upgrade that! I'd then move the 15 to my car. I may also just put the 18" in my car but that would be a huge box for my 99 Passat!

7 cuft with about 5 lbs of polyfill should work well. What amp is it? Wondering if it has a modifiable boost circuit... a little at 25 Hz would work well.

Thanks,
Scott

Re: Install application for my Q18!

If I could get mine modified to work well in a small sealed enclosure, around 5-6 cubes. I would use it, along with the other 31 drivers, in my new theater.
Power, maybe a Crest Audio cc4000, running stereo, 2 subs per channel, @2 ohms, should give an honest 750-800 watts per sub.

Re: Install application for my Q18!

Hi Sonnie,

I saw the giveaway thread last night. I would like to join. How do I know if I have met the requirements?

Anyways, I saw one requirement and that is to post our installation plan here on this thread.

So, about the install, I will add the FiCar driver giveaway to my existing FiCar subwoofer but on a separate manifold. Or I build a new wicked sub using this giveway FiCar 18" driver for my family room.

This is my plan. I photoshop it to duplicate it.
http://restricted.dyndns.org/ibsubwo...re_ib_plan.jpg

More pictures at
http://restricted.dyndns.org/ibsubwoofer

Then my latest pic which is last night at
http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/2...ulf4qk6rj2.jpg

So the manifold will be installed on a false wall. The false wall will be installed where you see the screen now.

Thanks.

Re: Install application for my Q18!

Not real sure what I would do with it if I won. Giant Bose Acoustimass rip off? Rubbermaid garbage can sub? Maybe plain Jane EBS?

I wonder if the weight of a big vented Q18 based sub would exceed the axle rating on a moped?

It's the Rythmik Audio 250w plate amp, unfortunately without any boost. Maybe one of those Behringer EQs would come in handy...

Re: Install application for my Q18!

I would either consider making a passive radiator type sub and would want to work with Fi to get a PR driver to match. It would be my first time building a sub, but I'm handy and have built many other things. It would be a very fun project.

I like the idea of a space-saving PR model, too. I'd build this one for my brother's home theater.

Re: Install application for my Q18!

Sealed and LT'ed. I'd have to work with the guys at Fi on the specifics, but I'm thinking fairly small, Justin's 5-6 cubes sounds good. A pro amp with 1,000 watts or better to give some headroom after the equalization, and a double thick, super strong box, stained and urethaned to a nice deep gloss. Front firing I think, unless there would be a significant sonic advantage to downfiring.

e: looking at the specs again, 4 - 5 cubes would be awesome if we could model it right.
