How to connect subs?

I'm really new to building subs. Can someone please share a drawing on how I should connect the 2 drivers to a beringer EP2500 for my IB? Hopefully, I can get an EP2500 next month.

Thanks!

I don't think you will need a drawing so I will describe it. Each sub should have a red(+) and black(-) terminals. If you look at the back of the EP2500 there is a little protruding plastic piece that is removable by two screws. Underneath this piece is two red posts and two black ones. Just run connect the red to red and black to black for each subwoofer and you will be set.

Are those drivers single or dual 2ohm or 4 ohm?

This was written by Scott on the other thread.

The new IB 18 features a 3" coil and a triple stacked motor specific for the IB application (smaller than the older Q series modified IB drivers and a little more purpose built overall).
Specs are:

Re 1.5 Ohms (single 2 Ohm coil)
Le .87mH
Fs 22.9 hz
Qms 3.25
Qes .79
Qts .63
Vas 381 l
Mms 258 g
Sd 1210 cm^2
Spl 89.4 1W/1m

Xmax is 30mm and suspension and motor limit right about at the same time.
At about 500-600 W it hits its linear limits at 20Hz. Power needs will vary accordingly.

Thanks.

Re: How to connect subs?

You have two options...

For 2400 watts... 1200 watts to each sub...

For 650 watts... 325 watts to each sub...

I would probably opt for the 1200 watts to each sub and keep the gain down. For this amp, it would probably have been better if you had gotten dual 2ohm or single 4ohm drivers.

Re: How to connect subs?

Thanks for the pictures. They helped me a lot so much!

Hopefully next month, I'll get an EP2500.

So you are saying that the driver I have right now is just ok? And I should have just gotten the one that was not modified for IB? Will I miss a lot?

By the way, why is the first picture connects to RED and RED rather than RED BLACK?

No... I didn't say that your driver was "just ok"... didn't even insinuate it. What I am saying it the power distribution on the EP2500 would be better suited to a pair of 4ohm drivers.

If you do not plan to add any more drivers at a later date, the EP1500 would be plenty enough to do what you need done. It will provide you with 700 watts per driver wired in the bridged mono method:

They are both red because it is how the amp is wired in the bridged mode.

Re: How to connect subs?

Thanks. I have plans to add 2 more driver in the future. I will keep your drawing.

By the way, from my Yamaha receiver, there is a subwoofer out. I used it before and it connects to my SVS subwoofer. Is it also going to be a similar connection to the EP2500?

Thank you so much!!!

Re: How to connect subs?

You'll need an RCA (Yamaha Receiver) to 1/4" TR (EP2500)... then 1/4" TR (EP2500) to RCA (Subwoofer). You could use RCA to 1/4" adapters if you wanted to.

Re: How to connect subs?

Be surre to use 1/4" MONO jack. 1/4" stereo jacks will not work. I finally realized this after replacing my amp and the second one still would not work.

Re: How to connect subs?

Absolutely... the mono 1/4" are "TR" and the stereo balanced are "TRS".

Re: How to connect subs?

Hi,

If I can get a QSC PLX 1602 amp, is this better than EP2500? Or what about QSC RMX 850?

Thanks,

Neil

Personally for the money I would stick with the EP2500 it simply is an outstanding amp for the price.

I have decided to buy an EP2500. Looks like I'm going home today with one. We'll see.

A great choice. I have been playing with mine quite a bit since purchasing - a very impressive amp indeed.

Well, I was unlucky when we arrived at Guitar Center. They didn't have EP2500 in stock. Then the following day when I was about to order it online, the price went back to $349. Right now, I'm working with someone locally again and have been haggling with the price of QSC 2450. Hopefully, I'll get it this time. I'll keep you posted within a week.

Thanks.

Does this mean that with bridge mono mode, I can get 1400watts? Will it sound better than my SVS 20-39Pci. I forgot what watts it puts out but I'm happy with it.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Neil

Re: How to connect subs?

I found it, http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-cyl-pcpow2.cfm

Am I correct what I am seeing that it is 325watts at 4ohms? If so, the IB I'm doing now will out do my old SVS? Please let me know.

Just curious, will this type of connection work? How many watts will it provide if using EP2500?

Re: How to connect subs?

Sonnie,

I finally got an amp and it's with me now. It's a QSC PLX 2402 which I picked it up for $250. The person whom I bought it from was a sound engineer. We did a lot of test to the amp on both channels as well. There were no issues.

I also bought banana plugs and 1/4" mono earlier. I will use your drawing above. Oh, he also modified the settings for bridge mono mode. I will try it once I get home tonight. I'll post some pics as well.

Oh, I also found out that the above drawing can be done. He also told me that I can put two sources such as mains and subs.

Re: How to connect subs?

Hi folks,

I forgot to post the pic of the amp I bought. It's a QSC PLX 2402. I have a question though. Are there any improvement in performance if we put each driver to separate channels rather than bridge mode? Just curious.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't started my theater yet. I'm still in the drawing stage. I've been planning for more than a year now.

I'm not sure if there's a performance advantage, but bridging the channels should give you almost double the amount of power.

Hi Sonnie,

I have a question. I would like to try your second drawing so I can use the other channel on the QSC amp for my 4ohm center speaker. Is the performance on my sub going to be very obvious going from 1200watts downto 625watts? Will I still feel the shaking of my basement?

Thanks!
