Mobile Version?

Hey, as I am often out and about, sitting through hours and hours of kids sporting events and practices, I find myself surfing the internet on my work-issued Blackberry AND personal Treo 650. Both have unlimited internet access. (Yes, I am a connection junkie!) So, I'm wondering if there's a mobile version of this forum? If not, can we get one implemented? It would be awesome to stay involved at all hours! Yes, I am sick like that.

Re: Mobile Version?

I've never heard of such before. Do you know of someone else who has a mobile version that I could check out?

Re: Mobile Version?

I have heard of websites being developed mobile friendly for Smartphones. I have been looking out for one to use with our companies new search engine True Local (hehe, little plug there)

But seriously folks. I am very interested in mobile browsing and how people pull it off cause I'd like to dive in myself. If anyone knows, please share.

If / when I find out something useful in the way of an easily adaptable platform/applet that can help the Shack to "Go Mobile" I'll definitely pass it on. It would be great and it's us in the tech industry on the web that really should be pushin' the limits on usability.

Thumbs up Re: Mobile Version?

Cool man, thanks. Big thanks.

This is one of those projects that has been on the back burner for weeks

Which means blatantly ignored until they invent the 72 hour day.

You just saved me some initial leg work and I appreciate it.

Re: Mobile Version?

WEll, some are just examples of how they're implemented. Nothing, save for the last link, that talks about doing it. I'll try to do some more digging later this week.

Re: Mobile Version?

hey, don't worry about it. Just reading about it gives me some keywords. Plus I've got friends that have done some java platform development and know a bit about making simbian applets and stuff like that. That's sort of where I suspect I'll be able to get that kind of info.

Re: Mobile Version?

Hey Sonnie, no way. Neither am I. I just figure the handheld people will know more about it. I'm sure there is a way to optimize a site for mobile browsers, that's all. Worst case scenario you'll have a whole new version of the site optimized for mobile, I don't know though, maybe the user sees something like a button that says "click here if you're mobile" and it feeds from a mirror that has some minor tweaks to be mobile friendly.

If it's not too difficult it might be worthwhile. But then ... you never know there might be features we take for granted on a full browser that make a forum difficult. I'd be surprized if this weren't the case. I think mobile users would be lucky to have a nice interface from which to browse the forum, posting might be too much.

But then, it's just speculation. But gosh no Sonnie, you surely wouldn't have to learn a whole new language. If you did it wouldn't be worth it until someone really makes it easy to convert.
