Does anyone know how well these HD-DVD players up convert SD-DVD?
I've been thinking of getting a new Up converting DVD-player like the oppo, which is just over $200.
My Xbox HD-DVD drive was $200, so put the two together and they are the same money.
If this toshiba can do as good a job up converting as the oppo, I think I'd just get the toshiba, sell my xbox drive on ebay or to a friend and call it even.
Plus I am limited on space, so replacing both my existing DVD player and the HD addon would clean things up a bit.
oh and while we're at it, does the A2 play DVD-A & SACD?
Is does upconvert well, but sorry no DVD-A (slight possible future chance via firmware -- but doubtful) and never likely to have SACD (missing the right special chips). The more expensive HD-XA2 is supposed to do a superb (amoung the best ever) job of upconverting SD-DVDs (thanks to its Reon video processing chip) and has HDMI 1.3. The upcoming Onkyo HD DVD player might have a better chance of doing DVD-A.
I own the A1 and it's the best my SD DVDs have ever looked. This is one thing that stands out with the player for me.
