I have no sound/audio from the TV - tried all different sources and inputs but no go. :gah: After the TV has been on for a little bit of time I start to get static on the TV speakers that I can do nothing about (Vol control does not work). So question is has anyone else faced the same problem? Any solutions - pointers?
BTW As a work around - I use an external receiver to route sound to a HT audio and that works fine, but the static from the TV can be failry overpowering! Would like to have the option to use the TV speakers.
Hitachi charges around 130 bucks if you send the SRS board to them for repair or call up the guys at ptscorp.com for a quote for a repair.
This is a common SRS module failure on this set.
Check tritronics for a new module if you don't want to wait for a repair.
As for the time being until you can take care of the SRS board. You can silence the noise from the speakers by temporarily pulling the speaker connector from the signal board. Just trace the wires from the speakers until you find the connector and pull it out.
Just don't forget to reconnect it after the SRS repair.
It's hard to say whether you will still have sound through your external speakers without the SRS board.
If all of the audio signals flow through that board before continuing elsewhere and you remove it you are essentially breaking the circuit and will not have audio.
I had the same issue with my sound, a year or two back. Paid Sears $200 to come out and fix it. Now it has gone out again! I'm just going to keep it running through my surround sound LOL.
I'm bumping this thread in hope of an answer.
Mine sound will also crackel pop then shut off.
Some times just tuning it off and back on will get it to work again, some times just going into the menu and changing the surround mode will make it come back also.
I cant see this problem being a blown audio output, since the problem comes and goes. My guess is some kind of signal processing problem or failing power supply.
But I see the sound board is a common problem with Hitachi's, so some body has to know what the bad component is.
I know I can just use a A/V reciver and aftermarket speakers, but this TV will be used in a Game Room and I was hoping to keep the equipment to a minumum.
Every one that I have fixed with popping or crackling had a bad output IC. There is a hum and muting problem that there is a mod for that involves some jumpers and caps. You might google for it, as I am sure it exists somewhere online. I never ran into one with this problem so I never used it.
It's intermittent. Every time I have ever ran in to a bad audio output, it's been a dead short...permanently. But also most of them have been 50 watts and up and driven hard.
So when you had a simular problem, and replacing the output IC fixed it, it was a intermittent problem?
The only audio problems that I have had with this chassis have started with popping and crackling, got worse, somtimes to complete failure, and turned out to be the output. Conventional audio amps with discrete bipolar transistors typically do fail as dead shorts. FETs and large op-amps in integrated packages (which is what these are) often break down intermittently before giving out. You can also have leaky caps or muting transistors that can cause these symptoms.
I'd check to see if the problem is on the monitor out and if it is in all channels. If it is in one channel, look to an output. If it is in all channels and in the monitor out, look to a processing or power supply problem. Check to see if heating and cooling affect the problem.
Well just an update. After changing the sound mode from the audio menu, then problem has not come back.
