Bought the Hitachi 53uwx10B to keep me company while recovering from a broken leg back in 2001. One year later(one month out of wty) the convergence took a dump. I Found and fixed a cold solder joint and it worked fine up until this years Super Bowl Sunday 2 hours before the game!(I'm not kidding!) This time I found a burned resistor RK62 but I can't read the value and don't yet have a manual.
1. Does anyone have the value for this resistor?
2. Should I take a chance and try replacing only this resistor and hope for the best?
3. Or should I replace the IC's and verify all resistor values?
4. Is STK394-250 a direct replacement for STK394-160 and STK392-110?
Thanks in advance for all the help! What a great site!!
1. The kit for you set from Hitachi will likely have the right resistor.
2. Not likely. Resistors usually fail because of a bad output IC.
3. Yes.
4. No, or actually, not sure, but there is no reason to try it. Just get the kit from Hitachi and it will have the right parts.
Thanks much for the advice. I ordered a download manual from justmanuals and ordered the Hitachi kit from Tritronics which is now called Encompass. The kit was only $37.00 plus $8.95 for shipping. I should be all set. Thanks again for helping me to save big bucks in repair charges!!
The kit you ordered has two STK392-150s. I ordered some to replace STK392-110s from acme-sales, since I could not resist the low price($12.99 a piece) and free 2~3 days USPS priority mail shipping for $50+ order.
They did work but they run hotter than I would be happy with. Given me another chance I would buy the Hitachi kits with STK394-160,:duh: lcaillo said they run cooler.
The Hitachi kits have not come with -150s in quite some time. There may still be some inventory with the older ICs, but I have not seen any from Tritronics in over a year.
I installed the IC's(160's) and resistors and the TV is now working perfectly! I still need to touch up the convergence a little but that's all. One issue I need to resolve though, When I press the magic focus button, the screen now comes up with the small cross hairs on the screen instead of performing auto focus. I'm sure I can find how to fix this in the service manual. Does magic focus do convergence and focus or just convergence?? Thanks for the help!!
This is why I recommend having the service documentation. When you finish convergence adjustment, most of the Hitachis require you to run MF from in the convergence mode after you save the data and initialize the sensors. The process varies depending on the chassis, but usually MF should be the last thing you do before exiting the convergence mode.
This is the kind of detail that you can easily miss if you do not have the proper manuals.
My 53UWX10B is 7 years old and now this is a second time I'm dealing with this issue. First time (3 years ago) I changed STK392-110 (only one) now I'm going to change two of them for STK392-150. Where can I get Service Manual or step by step adjustment process. Last time I got it from some site but could not find it now and was stupid not to save it.
Thanks, I've got step by step instructions for DCAM. But as soon I turned TV on, RK58 (I use 3.3 couldn't get 3.9) burned. I use 1 wt. Should I use 2 wt. I used two new STK 392-150 (I hope they still OK).
May be 150 require 2 wt instead of 1. Or it could be something else. Any idea please !
Resistors burning means either an open yoke, open connection to the yoke, shorted or defective IC, or some other installation related issue such as a bridge solder joint. Good chance the IC was damaged.
IIRC, the resistors supplied by Hitachi are all 1 watt.
I bought them from blue-star-online, I didn't read your message about recomended(trusted) sites and could not resist $6 price. Today I order original STK392-110 for $12.50 each and 3.9 Ohm/1 wt to replace RK58 from ACME as you recomended. I'm under family pressure to fix a TV. Soldering work is perfect.Does it make sense to not plug color (G,B,R) cables and see if resistor still blow or ther is no chance something else can get burned. Interesting, last week I did the same work for my body he has Toshiba (what a pain to get that board out) and it worked great. Thanks again for your help !
Always check the resistors with the chip out and yokes disconnected. Some are parallel to the yokes and some are series. Also verify that both + & - supplies are present at the ICs. Posted via Mobile Device
OK,I've got original STK392-110 from ACME and the right R58, put them in and DCM mode is there no resistor burning. 20 min later perfect adjustment.Wrote data to ROM and got green dots screen. Could not Initialize MF (Error Connect, EC 5). The TV works great, better then before, great colors, but MF is not working , has a screen with cross lines, nothing moves,no errors.Manual says that error 5 could be result of wrong yoke return resistor values ? Where this resistor located and what is a name/value of it? Also in a manual there is something about 2H model procedure. I went there in service mode but as soon as I realize I can get something wrong I got out of there. My tv is 53UWX10b so I guess it's not 2H model.
And you were absolutely right about buying from untrusted sites.
Thanks a lot for you help.
