| With all the high definition disc posts of late, you might have assumed that I?ve lost all interest in standard definition DVD?s. While hi-def discs are without a doubt my current fascination, I?ll continue to view standard-def DVD?s until the overwhelming majority of my favorite films are available on HD DVD. Not only will I continue to view SD-DVD?s, I haven?t ruled out the purchase of one last (knock on wood) standard-def DVD player. I believe we?ve yet to see that last nth degree of performance squeezed from the format, at least from players that don?t require a second mortgage to purchase. I know it may sound a bit odd to state that format defining DVD players may be forthcoming considering the format is nearly ten years old and Blu-ray/HD DVD players are upon us, but this wouldn?t be the first time such a thing has happened. The Pioneer HLD-X9... Link To Original Article Wayde | ||||

| Re: New HQV Equipped DVD Players From Denon Hey Wayde... notice that blog article printed ? for ' ... cut the article off and didn't include a pic. I think we may have missed a setting somewhere.Agree Bob... not even sure why Denon would come out with a DVD player that wasn't HD... I figured they would stay with what they got until they were ready for HD. | ||||

| Re: New HQV Equipped DVD Players From Denon With Blu-Ray and HD-DVD knocking at the door, I'm wondering who exactly would be buying a SD DVD player in the $900 and above catagory. Seems like a product without a market. | ||||

| Re: New HQV Equipped DVD Players From Denon On one had you have the fact that a poor HD DVD is probably better than the best upconverted DVD ever. But then, if there is no LoTR, Star Wars and complete Terminator on HD DVD can we really say the format exists yet? Not for me. Wayde | ||||

| Re: New HQV Equipped DVD Players From Denon Because buying HD-DVD or BD-ROM is like sticking a firework in your mouth and lighting. Nothing good will be a result. These formats IMO will go the wayside just like BETA vs VHS SACD vs DVD-A Cassette vs CD With new ability to download and access HD media via the internet will make its way into peoples homes with more sucess. Why?? 1. You Keep it 2. No Car, No Gas involved in driving out to get one. 3. Seemingly limitless selections regaurdless of studios. 4. Economical, no cases eating up shelves or etc. These now predominant broadband internet of today makes this simple to acces and little to no time constraint, you can multitask eaier now. If the medium is compatible or capable of being burned onto SD-DVD through EFS (Encrypted File Service) using a predetermined form of software. Purchase of said movie can be done only through SSL and credit card. These are all reasons why it would be best for no HD-DVD or BD-ROM ~Bob | ||||

| Re: New HQV Equipped DVD Players From Denon I believe it will be a long, long time before you're legally downloading HD content for pay. I want it, but it'll be a very long time. Jim P's got a point. Does downloadable HD content bear any relation to the 'net neutrailty bill'? It seems like a reach but I believe that there is a direct relation between an infastructure capable of delviering that much data at acceptable speeds and companies like AT&T wanting to get paid. I fear the legal ramifications of IPTV from the phone companies. ![]() Wayde | ||||

| Re: New HQV Equipped DVD Players From Denon Yes, downloadable HD content does have some relationship with the Internet neutrality legislation. As you've seen, many ISPs are getting into the video business. IPTV for example. If they want to make their IPTV good, and the iTMS video bad, they could do that. Then you'd just say IPTV looks so much better and the iTMS would go away. But I still don't think this legislation is really worth anything. It's a symbolic law, in my mind, and so one that isn't worth persuing. Making sure there is enough competition carrying Internet traffic and providing backbone service is a better solution, IMHO. | ||||
