Sharp Builds Super-Green LCD Factory

In Kameyama, Japan Sharp has completed the worlds most environmentally sophisticated LCD manufacturing facility. Sharp calls it Plant No. 2, but apparently its one of a kind. The LCD plant makes some of the most sophisticated LCD panels in the world. The plant is working with eighth generation glass substrates that measure 2,160 x 2,460 mm, the worlds largest of their kind. 52 and 46 LCD TVs will be made with these panels, expect the first to roll off the assembly line by October 1st. Choosing Sharps Aquos line of LCD displays means buying green in a big way.
Sharp calls the factory Super-Green because of its dedication to a high level of environmental performance intended to minimize impact on the environment. Plant #2 has the worlds largest Photovoltaic (solar panels) power system and one of the largest fuel cell and cogeneration systems in Japan. The plant gets about one third of its energy from its internal power systems and has approximately 40% reduced CO2 emissions compared to conventional power sources. Located inside the factory is its own is a large scale off-the-grid power system.
Sharp is one of the worlds most environmentally conscious consumer electronics company. Many companies talk the talk, but Sharp is actually doing some good work, fighting the good fight. The plant will use many of Sharps own technologies because Sharp also happens to be the worlds largest manufacturer of photovoltaic panels. Sharp has been doing a lot of other good work in the production of plant based paints and plastics used in its laptops and other electronics. Kudos Sharp for going beyond the call of Kyoto! Oh, and Al Gore called, he wants to take you out for vegetarian falafels and organic fruit juice smoothies.
