| | Nokia Promotes Mobile Bloggers with WidSets Nokia launched a new service called WidSets today, that multicasts RSS feeds and user-generated content to Java-enabled mobile devices. With its new WidSets service, Nokia seeks to get its hand into the Web 2.0 cookie jar. The Finnish cell phone giant makes it easier for users to subscribe to news feeds by broadcasting updates to your Smartphones, PDAs or cell phones. It might just get some reluctant users reading blogs and other Web2.0 content on their mobiles. As a user, you start by logging on to www.WidSets.com to create a free account. You’ll then browse a library of RSS feeds, which could be blogs or even photo uploading sites. Your choices will be multicast to your mobile handset as long as its one of the new generation of Java-enabled devices. It can offer wide cross compatibility by not relying on a browser. Nokia says it put some effort into being “fun”, and is offering users a variety of choices with suggestion features to get people immersed into the world of user-generated content on the web. A collaborative filtering feature allows user communities on WidSets to make suggestions about new sites and places you might not have known about. Now, just to make it easier for you new WidSets users, here is the RSS feed to one high quality gadget and technology blog, if I do say so myself: http://www.gizmocafe.com/blogs/MainFeed.aspx |
