PS3 Crashes

The Sony Playstation 3 console hadn’t yet been show. Sure, it was reported to be the most powerful video game system ever made, possessing a formidable cell processor and the greatly anticipated (and priced) Blu-Ray high definition DVD player. But no one had seen it. Although critics had begun to doubt the awesome potential of the PS3, Sony was prepared to show them all up at the recent Tokyo Game Show, one of the most celebrated gaming events in a country obsessed with the virtual world.
Alas, Cinderella never got her chance to waltz the night away with her charming prince. That’s because Cinderella crashed to the floor, her glass shoes exploding underneath.

Despite Sony’s wishes to set the gaming media straight and prove its hardware as the reigning King (or perhaps Queen) of consoles once again, the PS3’s debut was ruined by a series of significant (and embarrassing) crashes. According to inside reports, the console operated erratically, and “required repeated resets”. As a result, analysts have ramped up their doubt over the system’s potential for an even remotely successful launch.
Can you blame them?
Sony has quickly jumped on the bad press and denied the Playstation 3’s problems. According to a spokesperson for the company, the issues experienced in Tokyo were “not a problem with the Playstation 3 unit itself.” In addition, Sony assured fans that “for a normal player at home, there shouldn’t be a problem.”
Is that a chance you and your seven hundred American dollars are willing to risk?
The immediate result of the faulty console caused Sony’s stock to drop significantly. 2.7% in fact, with investment firm Goldman Sachs changing their rating of the company from “neutral” to “buy”. You know what they say, “buy low, sell high”. It seems pretty undeniable right now that Sony is slowly sliding toward the very bottom.

With that said, there is time for the Playstation 3 to right itself. Faulty launch systems are not unheard of, and the Microsoft Xbox 360 machine experienced its own wave of negative press after a bumbling first few months. The immense following that is the Sony fanboy nation will buy the PS3 and like it, no matter what. So long as it makes the effort to play the next Madden or Grand Theft Auto at ridiculous resolution, Sony will profit.
My suggestion? Buy low. Now.
