| Paramount Pictures Plays Both Sides of the Fence  Good news for Blu-ray Star Trek fans. Paramount will release movies in both next generation high definition disk formats HD DVD and Blu-ray. Coming this October 30th is the high def disk version of Mission Impossible III with Tom (I know the history of psychology) Cruise – no, he’ll never live that one down. I’ve never seen the movie but word is it’s not such a bad action spy thriller if you can get past the last two. It has Philip Seymour Hoffman so it can’t be all bad. MI-iii will be simultaneously released in both HD DVD and Blu-ray. In fact Paramount makes it possible to get your Mission’ on in a big way with the Ultimate Missions Collection which consists of all three Mission Impossible films and you can choose from either HD DVD or Blu-ray.Originally Paramount had backed the HD DVD format along with Warner and Universal but got cold feet about being exclusively HD DVD when Sony announced that PS3 would include a Blu-ray disk player. So, instead of switching to the other side Paramount decided to simply start releasing movies in both formats. It appears the very next simultaneous HD DVD / Blu-ray release by Paramount will be Warren Bettie’s proletarian uprising picture “Reds”.
