Not to be outdone by Toshiba’s launch delays with HD-DVD, Sony has announced the first round of Blu-ray titles originally scheduled for a May 23rd launch, have now been pushed back to June 20th.
The delayed new window titles include: Underworld: Evolution, 50 First Dates, The Fifth Element, Hitch, House of Flying Daggers, A Knight’s Tale, The Last Waltz, Resident Evil: Apocalypse and XXX.
The phrase ‘comedy of errors’ comes to mind here. I’m not knocking Sony for the delay itself, it takes guts to stand up and admit things aren’t quite ready. What I’m questioning is how they can allow Toshiba another month of free-reign, without any real competition.
Technical advantages aside, give a consumer long enough and they’ll go with what’s available over what’s promised the majority of the time.
On one hand I guess I should be happy with this news as I’ve already drank the other side’s Kool-Aid new window but the realist in me feels this is yet another obstacle in ending the already protracted format-war.
