| A common problem with affordable AV furniture is that the best looking stuff doesn’t always have the sheer build quality grunt to cope with the sort of weights demanded by some of the best AV gear. Cue Omnimount’s new Moda 16:9 range, which the company claims is every bit as focussed on strength as it is on looks. On the looks side, Omnimount claims the Moda 16:9 range takes it inspiration from movies with both form and feel echoing the classic movie era. Three material combinations are available: the maple and chrome , steel and glass, and warm cherry and dark oak. Plus you can get five different designs: the retro-styled Frame (available in 100cm and 150cm widths), the architectural-looking Linear (available in 150cm), the graceful Glace (available in 150cm), the minimalistic Glide (in 100cm and 150cm widths) and finally Pillar, which comprises two fixed height speaker stands designed to complement the rest of the range. On the strength side, all models except the speaker-bearing Pillars are designed to handle a hefty 113kg - or 18 stone in old numbers. Also, the stands can take flat panel TVs up to 60in across, making them one of the first ranges in the UK comfortably able to handle the sort of king-sized screens that are becoming increasingly popular as high definition looms.
