Hello Jake, Welcome to the Shack.
Depends,... I'm not familiar with your speakers, but I'd bet either receiver would do you fine. In my book the main items in choosing a receiver are; budget and features. Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer, Harmon Kardon are all comparable, just depends on the features you need and the price you are willing to pay.

Yes... either will work equally well with the plasma. The 805 does have numerous other features that make it worth owning if you can afford it. With a Pioneer plasma... I'd bet you can afford the 805.

Both Sonnie and myself have the 805 and we both like the features and sound it produces. the bigest difference between the 605 and the 805 is that the 605 does not have pre outs in case you ever want to ad an external amp and of course the 805 has a fair bit more power and surround modes Also the 805 has the best Burr Brown DACs available.

Re: Onkyo 605 Or 805?

Ok thanks for the replies, not to get off this subject but let me ask this. What benefit will i get going hdmi from the 805 to the plasma over going hdmi from my motorola hd cable box to the plasma.I currently have hdmi from the hd cable box to my hitachi plasma and use a optical cable from the hd cable box to my sony receiver. Will i get a better picture out of the 805 over my hd cable box?If so do i hook up a hdmi from the cable box to the 805 and another hdmi from the 805 to the plasma?sorry about all the ?????

Re: Onkyo 605 Or 805?

I think it is a situation of half a dozen to one, six to another. I do not see there being any improvement... if anything possibly less (though I doubt) since the signal has to go through an extra path. If you want video upconversion from 480i or 480p to 1080, you will need to go up to the 875. Then you might see some improvement in your image.

If you have more than one source, such as the cable box and a DVD player, then connecting them both through the receiver and then out to the plasma will keep you from having to switch inputs on the plasma... and you would no longer need the optical cable.
