| Is this enough I have a Yamaha RV-X1700 receiver which is 130watts/ch. My speakers setup is Rocket 850's for the fronts, Rocket RSC200 center, and Rocket RS250 MKII for surrounds. Now is this receivers output enough to get out of these speakers what they are intended to do? Or should i be buying a dedicated 2-channel amp for the fronts to do so. And if so any suggestions? | |||

| | Re: Is this enough Hard to say. They have a pretty decent efficiency rating (which is more-or-less an indicator of how much power it takes to drive them), which is a plus. On the other hand, even though they’re rated as a nominal 8-ohm, much of their frequency range is down to 4-ohms or so. If you are able to drive them to acceptable levels with your volume control no more than about 1/2 way up, you should be fine. If not, then an amp might be a good thing. Regards, Wayne | |||

| Re: Is this enough Of course, going to 230W is still only going to give you +3dB on your mains, which isn't a whole lot, although that's better than clipping. Do an SPL calculation and use an SPL meter to figure out what you're driving them at now, and where the peaks are going to be in music or movies. Also, lost of mainstream music doesn't have a lot of dynamic range anyway. | |||
