| Best investment of $1,329 + tax. I want to purchase a new sound system for my "Home Theater" I have the opportunity to purchase a New Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH fo $1,329 + tax with warranty, I can get the same thing online for about $1,126 without warranty. So the question is; If I want a sound and video processor with decent power and quality for a 5.1 system what is the best I can buy with a budget of $1,329 + tax? What I seem to see is, if I want 1080p upscaling, decent power (100+ wpc), hdmi 1.3a. I need to spend over $1,000. To get better, I need to spend substantially more, and spending lesss I give up features. The purpose of this post is for a reality check. Am I missing something? Is there something out there that will do what I want for less, or something that will do more for the same price? Paul | |||

| Re: Best investment of $1,329 + tax. Although The elite line is decent, you get far more bang for your buck going with Onkyo Right now they seem to be the receiver of choice and have allot more options and better build. The Onkyo TX SR805 is less $, is 130watts x 7.1 and is THX ultra certified. if you can squeeze another $300 out of your buget the Onkyo TX SR875 is even better and has 1080p upconversion using the HQV Reon chip (the best in the industry) the 805 only upconverts to 720p Home theater: Onkyo TXSR805 receiver, Samson Servo 4120 bridged @240wattsX2, 2-Mission 765 Mains, 4-762i's Surrounds, SVS PB13 Ultra, AR center PSC25, Two Channel system: Yamaha RX-V995, Mission 764i's & A/D/S MS3u sub, Yamaha KX-393 Tape deck, CDC 805 5 disc CD changer, My Webpage | |||

| Re: Best investment of $1,329 + tax. I had looked at the Onkyo TX-SR875, and the only two local places that sell Onkyo didn't sell the TX-SR875. The place that is selling the Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH was/is offering 3 years no interest. I checked the HTS store for the Onkyo TX-SR875, and Amazon is out of stock, but "6th Ave" seems to have it in stock. Anybody bought from them? Is anyone aware of a Head to Head comparison of the Onkyo TX-SR875 vs the Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH, that I can look over? Also is there any bias since the Onkyo is sold on the HTS store ![]() Paul | |||

| | Re: Best investment of $1,329 + tax. Nope, no bias. I haven't heard either, so I can hardly be biased. Just making suggestions based on what has been the most popular choice. We also sell the Pioneer, but may be out of stock. As always, I encourage everyone to shop around for the best price... we are not always the cheapest. I think it's pretty well agreed that when you get to that much receiver, there is not a lot of difference in sound quality. The difference is in the features and power. | |||
