Yamaha HTR-5990 and OSD

Hi All,
First post, I hope it`s in the appropriate forum
I cant seem to get my volume displayed on the screen when making adjustments to it. It used to when I was using the "monitor out" into my old Panasonic CRT but no longer does now that I replaced it with an LG 42" LED running HDMI with an LG Blu Ray as a source into the DVD input.
If I switch to an unused input, the volume display appears. Have I missed something in the video settings or is it no longer possible using HDMI?
TIA

Welcome to HTS.
Not sure if that Yamaha model displays receiver volume over HDMI (it obviously did via the composite monitor out). If the manual doesn't help I'd suggest contacting Yamaha support.

Unused input on TV? The Yamahas volume or the TVs volume appears?

Yes, some older receivers dont display volume or any other overlay settings over HDMI
My Onkyo does not do this either.

3 EV Sentry 500 monitors across the front, 4 Mission 762i's Surrounds, SVS PB13U sub, Panasonic BDT220, Harmony 1100, Nintendo WiiU
Panasonic PT-AE8000 on a 120" 2,35:1 fixed screen

Living room system:
Sherwood/Newcastle R972, Mission 765's, SVS SBS02's, A/D/S MS3u sub, Yamaha YDG2030EQ
Yamaha KX-393 Tape deck, CDC 805 CD changer, Panasonic BD60, Sony turntable PS-T20
Panasonic TC-P50ST60, HD-PVR & WDTV Live, Harmony 900

An unused input on the Yamaha.
I could not find anything in the manual regarding this, I`m getting the feeling that feature is not available through HDMI.
I`ve had this receiver close to 10 years now and really like it, it has performed flawlessly so far (knock on wood )
Do you think Yamaha would actually support such an old unit?
