Is it safe to connect a power amp to the rear outlet of an av receiver?:yikes:

The power supply is a critical part of what makes an amplifier what it is. Running further amps from an AVR's outlet will result in poorer performance all round from both amplifiers which makes it a complete no no and pointless. It might actually run, but it really is a bad idea.

Plug the amp into the outlet of a surge protector so it has its own protection.
The receiver and amp have 12 volt control (trigger) outputs and inputs. Use an RCA cable to connect those together. The receiver will turn on the amp when the receiver turns on.

Next to the power outlet on the receiver you will find a maximum wattage or current rating for that outlet.

On the back of the amp you will find an equivalent maximum rating.

You will find that the amp's maximum power draw is far greater than what the power outlet of the receiver is rated to provide. If you use it, you are risking damage to both.

If you never use much current it would be fine. But if you will never use the current, you probably don't need an amp. Generally, it is not a good idea, as others have said. High power devices should normally be connected directly to the power source, or a device that is designed for the greater load like a well designed surge suppressor.
