Need follow-up for a convergence repair, please

I have a JVC RPTV model AV-48W30, and I have completed a convergence repair myself. I must first say thank you to lcaillo and all your helpful information. You persuaded me to attempt the repair myself because of all your good information. I replaced the convergence ICs only since a close inspection of the resistors seemed to show no burning or shorting there. I don't have a meter to check them anyway, and I'm not sure exactly how to do that, and it seemed like most folks in the threads I read were getting good results from just replacing the ICs. I tried to follow all your advice as best I could. I bought genuine Sanyo parts from one of your recommended suppliers, and decided not to try upgrading them to a different chip since some suggested that resistor failure might result. So I replaced them with the original part, STK392-110s. I smeared a thin layer of thermal compound on the chips, and tried my best to get mostly metal to metal contact. The soldering proceeded without incident, and I used a 40W iron and eutectic 63/37 lead solder, removing the iron as soon as the connection was made. I have put it all back together and adjusted the convergence several times, and I keep having it move slightly out of adjustment, and then almost back in again. It seems to be mainly horizontal alignment only, and it's only in a small area of the screen, and not a large amount, but it's enough to see with a regular picture on the set. Does this mean that resistors should also be changed, or could this be a number of different problems too hard to diagnose without actually seeing the set? I would value your help here....thanks.

Re: Need follow-up for a convergence repair, please

Your thread was moved to the proper forum to maintain forum organization and to make information easier to find for future users.

Are you following the service manual procedure for saving the data? Letting it warm up for 30 minutes before adjusting? What kind of adjustment are you having to make? If you don't have a meter you likely did not verify the stability of the power supplies nor the d.c. offset on the output amps. There is often more to repairs than just changing parts, which is what the convergence repair sticky is all about. Re-read the first ten posts very carefully.
