Question Hitachi 61SWX10B - Sound problem

I have no sound/audio from the TV - tried all different sources and inputs but no go. After the TV has been on for a little bit of time I start to get static on the TV speakers that I can do nothing about (Vol control does not work). So question is has anyone else faced the same problem? Any solutions - pointers?

BTW As a work around - I use an external receiver to route sound to a HT audio and that works fine, but the static from the TV can be failry overpowering! Would like to have the option to use the TV speakers.

Thanks in advance!

Problems on the surround board are not uncommon in these sets but this is the kind of problem that needs some troubleshooting.

Re: Hitachi 61SWX10B - Sound problem

Hitachi charges around 130 bucks if you send the SRS board to them for repair or call up the guys at ptscorp.com for a quote for a repair.

This is a common SRS module failure on this set.

Check tritronics for a new module if you don't want to wait for a repair.

As for the time being until you can take care of the SRS board. You can silence the noise from the speakers by temporarily pulling the speaker connector from the signal board. Just trace the wires from the speakers until you find the connector and pull it out.

Just don't forget to reconnect it after the SRS repair.

Most of the problems that I have seen in this area of these sets have been shorted audio output ICs, but they usually cause a shutdown.

Re: Hitachi 61SWX10B - Sound problem

Thanks guys for the input. I spoke with PTS and they asked for me to send in the SRS board and they'll repair for $105 + S&H in 7-14 days.

Question - can I still run the TV without this board (while the board is being fixed)?

It's hard to say whether you will still have sound through your external speakers without the SRS board.

If all of the audio signals flow through that board before continuing elsewhere and you remove it you are essentially breaking the circuit and will not have audio.
