Jvc Av-65wp74

Hello,

I found this site searching for information regarding a convergence issue on a JVC AV-65WP74. I read through the first few posts in the Convergence Repairs thread but I wanted to clarify the part # for the ICs. My understanding is that the set uses STK392-110 (set is my cousin's). Can/should that be replaced with the STK394-160 on a JV AVxxWP74? If I were to order one of the Hitachi kits referenced which ones would I order to most likely receive the correct resistors? If I needed to replae them that is.

Thanks very much in advance for any help.

You will need to verify what is in your set by looking or referring to the service manual. Do not remove the back of the set. IIRC this is one with the detector that will wipe the digital memory if the set is tampered with while plugged in. You can service the convergence from the front IIRC. Refer to the post on the ICs for what can sub for what, AFTER you verify the ICs.

Re: Jvc Av-65wp74

Thank you for the reply. I probably would not be able to verify it until at least the weekend. From the searches I have done everything seems to indicate that the ICs in the set are in fact the STK392-110. I guess my concern in replacing them with the STK394-160s was that you indicated in your original post that 'it should work' so I wasn't certain about this particular set.

I think they are going to just order them here http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/prod...onvergence-ics Hopefully they will work out OK. I am assuming that price is for a single IC and not a pair. They can get the service manual there also from the looks of it.

P.S. Thank you very much about the tip/warning about opening it from the back.

Re: Jvc Av-65wp74

I have not found a set yet that used STK392-110 that did not work fine with the STK394-160. I can only relate my experience, but in my opinion, it is a far superior replacement and I use it in all sets with STK392-110 or STK392-150.

Re: Jvc Av-65wp74

One more question, if you don't mind. which of those Hitachi kits that you referenced in your convergence thread come with STK394-110 ICs? You state that they come with either the 150 or 160Es. Or perhaps I am misunderstanding something. Looks like all those kits come with 2 ICs also, right? Seems like a great price for both ICs and resistors. $37 from Andrews...

Also, any idea which one would most likely have the resistors that I might run into in an AV-65WP74?

Thanks again for all of your help. I love the site and can't believe I have never run into it before in all my searches for Home Theater info over the years.

Re: Jvc Av-65wp74

It depends on where you get them. I get them in the cheapest kit from TriTronics and have not receeved one with STK392-150 in a long time. Other vendors may have old stock that has that chip in the kit, I don't know. At some point Hitachi ran out of the 392-150 and changed over to the 394-160. Both are superior to the 392-110, but IME the newer series is better, runs cooler, and is more reliable.

Don't count on any of the Hitachi kits having the right resistors for the JVC. Check the values in the set or in the service manual and get the right ones. You could get lucky and have the right ones in one of the kits but there is no reason to expect this.

Yes, the Hitachi kits come with 2 chips.

Re: Jvc Av-65wp74

I forgot to follow up with this but just wanted to say thanks for the help. I ended up going with the original replacement parts, the 392-110s. It's been a few weeks now and all is working well *knocks on wood*. This is a great site that I had never even heard of before researching this convergence problem and I will be probably be hanging out in the home audio section in the coming months as I anticipate the release of the Onkyo 806. Thanks again.
