Mitsubishi Meltdown

I have a Mitsubishi WT-46807, purchased in 2002, that now seems to have gone loco. Around mid December, I noticed for the first time that the picture screen would bow in the middle of the picture and the green and red colors of the picture would seperate slightly. But that would only last for a few seconds, then the picture would adjust itself and be normal. This didn't happen every time the TV was turned on, but maybe three times a week. In early January I noticed that the volume indicator stopped showing up when we turned the volume up and down. None of the other adjustable indicators (color, tint, channel, etc) showed up either. Then almost 2 weeks ago, my wife turned on the TV and the TV volume was at full blast. I checked it out myself when I got home and it didn't happen, but by the next day, the volume didn't even come on. Two days later the TV picture didn't even come on. Now I'm pretty upset cause it happened right before the Superbowl and I had plans to host a get together.

Needless to say, after trying to reset the TV, now it doesn't even come on. The screen stays black as if it were off and eventually the TV just turns off.

I'm in the Marietta, GA area and I'm looking for a reliable repair person to take a look at the TV or just lets me know if its not worth the time. Could you make any recommendations?

Re: Mitsubishi Meltdown

Sounds like bad solder connections on a convergence output and sticky front panel buttons. By continuing to use the set when it was misbehaving you may have created a slightly worse problem by blowing a fuse if I am right about the convergence.

There are lots of possibilities and it needs to be checked by a good tech.

The only servicer that I can recommend anywhere near you is Richard at Mastertech in Lawrenceville. Not the closest but he has a good reputation. I would avoid Normans if you can. They may be technically OK but I did not like the attitude in communications I had with them on other matters.
