Mitsu WS-65857 106624 converg unit questn

I have a WS-65857 106624 bought in 2002. Currently I am getting red and green shadows. I do the converge and the vertical red and blue line do not move when I hit the adjust. Based on what little I know I think it is a Convergence Module or something. Does anyone have any advice on what it could be, replacement part, or if this a fix I might be able to do myself? Thanks in advance.

Your problem is likely NOT the convergence module. It is likely a bad convergence output IC or bad solder connections on the same. Whether you can fix it yourself or not depends on your soldering skills and ability to take the set apart and put it back together without damaging anything. You will likely need to re-adjust the convergence at the service menu level so wyou will need a service manual. If you do fix it yourself, make sure you only use parts from a reliable vendor. There are many selling cheap junk replacement parts that are not the OEM parts.

Re: Mitsu WS-65907 converg unit questn

THANKS - I made a mistake the model is WS65857 106624. I have the red and green shadows.
I have taken the back and front covers off to view the component electronics and can take the top 1/2 of the set off as I have moved this beast twice. I am alright with repair it yourself items as long as I know where to look. Where do you find these pieces within the set itself - I went to an earlier thread and saw a suggestion to replace STK392-570 but I do not know what the correct replacements are not an online site to purchase. How many are there? If I am going to be in the set anyway I might as well replace. Any suggestions on where these are located?

Thanks again.

Taking the top off of the set will not help you with this repair. You have to take the chassis out. Be sure to note the wire dress and get everything back where it came from. There are two STK392-570 chips. Buy them from B&D Electronics or ACME Electronics. They both sell only original Sanyo made chips, which are what the manufacturers all use. Be sure to use a very thin layer of heat sink grease, being sure to clean off any dried residue and leaving no gaps. More is not better. Check that the + and - supply voltages are present at the chips to be sure that no fuses, chokes, or resistors are open. As I said, get the manual to be sure that you can align the set properly at the service level.

Re: Mitsu WS-65907 converg unit questn

Looks like these are about $20 per at B&D

Couple of last questions
Where do I get a manual?
Is STK392-570 the one that will work for my set? If not how do I find out which one?

Last:
If I get into this and feel I cannot handle do you know what would be an estimated price to have someone take care of it?

Thanks

Re: Mitsu WS-65907 converg unit questn

If you are not confident that you can complete the repair, DO NOT attempt it. If you bugger up the traces or crack a board you may make the reapir more expensive or even make the set unrepairable. I charge $180-240 labor for a local call, plus $37.50 each for the chips. That is likely a very low rate compared to most areas. Many shops charge twice as much.

If the set has that chip it is the only one that you should use. Some of the convergence chips have upgrades, this one does not. The manual can be bought from Mitsubishi for $40 or $50 or downloaded from several places on line. The downloads are not authorized by Mits, so you may or may not get the entire manual or the right one. The chassis is a V17, which might help you track it down.
