Mitsu convergence question...

Hi, I have 2 quick questions for you.

1.) I have a Mitsu WS-65807 s/n 112297. I had the bowtie effect 6 months ago and found the lead on the STK392-570 came off the chip itself. I attempted to tack it back on the chip, and resoldered all the connections on the board for both chips. Now the problem is back and I would like to replace both chips since they are 7 years old. I have seen you talk about advanced convergence adjusting needed after replacing these chips. Is this in need of a service manual for tweaking or just advanced setup in the comsumer menu adjustments? I have spents hours in the normal menu adjusting convergence previously and it came out great, but I have not replaced these chips before. Don't want to mess it up without proper instructions. The IC's are both STK392-570 but one says D3D23 and the other says D3D25, are these date codes or differences in the chip?

2.) 4 years ago under warranty, a tech came out and fixed a similar problem. I was not home and wish I could have seen what he did. The TV had a convergence issue, however it was not "bowtieing". The 3 colors were all spaced apart about a 1/4" or so, evenly shadowing each other. Was this the same IC issues? My wife said he soldered something in out of his truck and the TV has worked great until 6 months ago.

Thanks a million, this forum is Great!!

Chad

The tech probably soldered the chips ar the circuit board. Sometimes the solder at the base of the chip fails as well, as you experienced. The 5 characters on the chip are a date code for the batch of chips. Make sure that you get the original Sanyo parts. Use B&D, Acme, or TriTronics (but do not use the TT versions which may not be original Sanyo parts). You may be able to do all the correction that you need in the advanced convergence in the consumer menu, but if that does not allow the range, you will need to get in to the service mode.
