mitsubishi 1080hd sound but no picture - how to fix?

I have a mitsubishi 1080hd tv, (older set 8 or so years) over the last few days, it powered itself off, and i have on occasion been able to power it back on with a picture, after unplugging from the wall, and it now powers on, but no picture. I have even tried plugging a dvd into the front inputs and still no picture, but sound.

Post a model number and which types of signals you have tried to view. CAn you see OSD or menus?

Morning, the Model Number is - WS-65903 - Manufactured Date - December 1999. As to menus or anything on the screen is no video at all, have sound on different inputs, as i have DirectTv, ComCast, and Cd on three different inputs, again with no video at all. Tried a standalone DVD player on the inputs on the front, with same results, sound but no picture.

This model is well known for coolant leaks.

The set in that thread had a leak on the connectors between boards. Your set is more likely to have a leak on the signal board itself. You may have some other problem, but leaks are very common and they can be a challenge for someone who is not experienced with them and thorough.

Is this a costly repair??? and should i call only an authorized Mits repair - i live in Harrisonburg Va, 22801 - so only looks like one.

That depends on whether your available servicers are willing to do this kind of repair like I described. You need to talk to them and find out. If they just want to change boards or are too expensive, you may want to try it yourself. Check with all of the reputable shops in your area, not just the ASCs. The ASC is a good place to start, but Mitubishi is little help on these problems.
