Troubleshooting Question

I have a Mitsubishi WS-55805 that I bought 7 years ago. I went to turn it on and I got some flickering, thin lines & curves that blinked on and off a couple of times and now I have a black screen. Volume doesn't work, can't change the inputs, nothing is happening.

Any ideas what this could be and how much it may cost to fix? I hate to think it's time for a new TV after only 7 years...

Thanks.

Re: Troubleshooting Question

Does the set shut down? If so check the diagnostics by pressing input and menu together for 5 sec. on the front panel. You will get a 2 digit blink code on the LED on the front panel. Count the blinks between pauses. If not, do you have menus or OSD?

The thin curved lines tell me that you likely have a convergence or vertical output failure, possibly both. The convergence output amps and the vertical output amp are powered by the same positive supply IIRC and you likely blew a pico fuse on that supply or one of those circuits is pulling it low.

Other possibilities are a coolant leak which you need to check for very carefully or bad capacitors on one of the low voltage supplies.

Re: Troubleshooting Question

Thanks for the reply. I pushed the input and menu buttons and the light does not blink. I can't access any menus, etc.

Re: Troubleshooting Question

Look for a coolant leak.

Read the thread on the matter very carefully.
