| Red fog in Mits ws-65315 Hi, Hoping you guys here can help. My brother just bought a used ws-65315 and when I helped him set it up I noticed what I can best describe as a red fog over the top of what should be black background. For instance when I did the convergence I noticed the red fog behind the on screen prompts only. The rest of the screen is fine...no red fog. It's not at all affected by adjusting the convergence. I notice it to on high contrast scenes in a movie also. It was a scene where I guy was wearing a bright white shirt and the shirts collar was casting a dark shadow on the shirt. The shadows had a bit of a red foggyness to them. It was late last night and we were beat when we were doing this so it may be something I can adjust out but the basic controls I tried didn't seem to have any effect on the fog. The fog's most visible with the green tv generated screen prompts(volume, input, video adjustment, etc) is displayed over a black/dark background. The fog will extend out a few inches in all directions from the lettering of the prompts. Any ideas what this may be? Thanks, Ken | |||

| Re: Red fog in Mits ws-65315 Thanks lcaillo, Tonight I finally had a chance to get back with my brother and work on his tv. Turns out the problem is pretty serious as we found 3 flaws in the red crt's glass. It looks like drops of some kind of liquid etched three small dents in the glass and they vary in size from about 3/8 to 1/2" in diameter. We removed the focusing lens and the dents are in the actual top sealed layer of concave glass in the crt itself. Does the whole red crt have to be replaced or can the flawed glass/seal be replaced? Since he bought the set used he doesn't want to put a ton of money in it...so if there's a cost effective way to fix this please let me know. Thanks, Ken | |||

| Re: Red fog in Mits ws-65315 You might find a used tube that you could change the part from but you would have to replace the coolant as well...a messy job and there are not likely many used tubes for these floating around yet as these sets are not aging out much yet. Mitsubishi sells only the entire CRT assy. I have some older CRTs that I might be able to pull a part from but I would have to have the part to compare, or at least some very detailed pix and measurements. | Re: Red fog in Mits ws-65315 Thanks again for help. Do I have to go through an authorized Mits repair company or can I order the crt myself somewhere online? Do you happen to know the part# for the Red Crt assembly that I need? Again the tv is model# WS-65315. Thanks, Ken | |||

| Re: Red fog in Mits ws-65315 The only place to get a CRT asy is Mitsubishi. You may find a tube rebuilt from VDC, but it may not have the hardware mounted. "It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it." -Joseph Joubert Raise the bar. | |||
