| Hello I'm new to this forum. Hello, my name is Vern and I live in Seattle, Washington. I'm new to this, so if this isn't the place to post this message please let me know. I have a Mitsubishi WS55809 projection tv that's about 6 years old and has worked without problem until about 3 months ago. When all of the sudden one night when I turned it on the picture seemed to be almost concave or bowed. The colors on each side of the screen are misaligned and seem to be stretched. I'm not sure I am describing it correctly but maybee you know what I am trying to say. Also it doesn't happen all the time, it will go away for a while and then come back unexpectedly, sometimes if I smack the side of the tv it will go away. I'm not sure of what's going on, let me know if there is anything I can do. I am an auto technician so I am somewhat inclined, can this be something I can do myself or do I have to take it in? Thanks alot and please message me to where the answer with be posted. | |||

| Re: Hello I'm new to this forum. Hey Vern, welcome aboard. I used to have a Mits. 55805, but it served me well until I sold it, so I can't help you there. I can tell you that there are a lot of Mits experts over at the HT Spot -- which I frequented a lot until they started charging a subscription fee. So if you are desperate, that's an option for advice. But you sound pretty handy, so I would probably contact Mits for a copy of the maintenance manual and you can probably figure out which board is giving you fits and replace it. Sounds like one of the amps controlling the convergence failed. Based on what you said about hitting it, it is probably a power or output feed from that board that is disconnecting or shorting. It SHOULD be an easy fix for a technician, but I have no idea what it would cost, since it has to be on site. Call Mits and ask, it can't hurt and it may be covered under warranty. Worst case, they can probably steer you towards the right parts/manual. Best of luck, Anthony | |||

| Re: Hello I'm new to this forum. Hi Vern and welcome, This is a problem that you may be able to fix on your own if your willing to do some work. First of all do this at your own risk and make sure you unplug the power cord and use caution as there will still be high voltages present even after the power is unplugged. You will need to open up the back of the set and once inside you will need to go from one spot to the next making sure that all the boards and wires are connected properly. The fact that you say it goes away when you hit the display says to me that you just may have a bad connection somewhere. | Re: Hello I'm new to this forum. Resolder the convergence output IC. Very common problem on this one. If you catch it early enough you may not have to replace the IC.
