| Mitsubishi HD1080 TV. Red and Green Shadows. I have Mitsubishi HD 1080 tv, 55 inch, model # WS-55807. Manufactured in Aug 2000 PIMS. For the last couple days I'm getting Red and blue shadows. Before that I was getting once in a while a distorted picture. The picture starts to distort like ar arch starts from the bottom of the screen and the picture and program listings were getting distorted becasue of that arch. I was getting that arch once in a while and then it goes away by itself. I thought it was a problem with my cable connection. Now I'm getting these red and green shadows for the last couple of days and it's not going away. I'll appreciate if you help me out by pointing towards the right direction. I live in Portland, Oregon. I have read some threads related to Mitsubishi HD1080's similar problem (Red and green shadows) but a different Model #. The model # of my TV is WS-55807. What I have understood from the solution posted on the threads that there might be a problem with convergence ICs. Suggestion was to change STK392-570 ICs ( two of them for other model). I don't know what type of convergence ICs do I have on model WS-55807. I'll appreciate if someone give me the answer that what's actually a problem with my TV and what need to be done. Why the picture distortion comes and goes but Red and Green shadows are consistant.? What ICs need to be changed or look at and where they are located inside my TV? I'll really appreciate any kind a help from the Gentlemen out there in the Forum. Best Regards, Aqad786. | ||||

| Re: Mitsubishi HD1080 TV. Red and Green Shadows. No one can be sure what is wrong with your set without being there to diagnose it. The symptoms indicate a convergence failure, and the output ICs are certainly the most likely source of the problem. You may also have a blown fuse or two on the supplies to the ICs, or possibly a problem with the convergence generator or the EEPROM that stores the data. I would start by changing the ICs, which are STK392-570, and verifying the +/- supply voltages at the chips. If the supply is not present check the pico fuses. Read the thread on convergence repairs and buy your parts from the recommended supliers only. ______________________ Why I support scouting... | Re: Mitsubishi HD1080 TV. Red and Green Shadows. Hi Lcaillo, Thanks for the reply. I have opened the back cover of my TV and look for the ICs but I was not able to find those. Could you please tell me how many ICs (STK392-570) my TV model # WS-55807 use and where they are located inside the TV? I'll really apprecite your help in this matter. Best Regards, Aqad | ||||

| Re: Mitsubishi HD1080 TV. Red and Green Shadows. The largest heat sink has two large chips. You can't miss it. If you can't find the chips, you may want to get a qualified tech to service your set. One of the most important aspects of effective service is to be observant and able to find your way around the set. If you lack the needed skills you may well create more problems than you have now. ______________________ Why I support scouting... | Re: Mitsubishi HD1080 TV. Red and Green Shadows. Sorry, wrong end of the country for me. I don't know any of the servicers in your area. I would start with the Mitsubishi ASCs and the NESDA members, however. ______________________ Why I support scouting... | Re: Mitsubishi HD1080 TV. Red and Green Shadows. Hello Lcaillo, Thanks a million for your help. I have ordered a service manual of WS-55807. I'll take the chasis out and replace the ICs. After that I'll try to do the convergence as mentioned in the service manual. You were a great help. I'll also follow your suggestions what you have sent so far to fix this problem. God Bless. | Re: Mitsubishi HD1080 TV. Red and Green Shadows. The service manual will be of assistance in getting the set re-aligned, but will not give you much information about repairing it. Be diligent about noting where wires are dressed, and doing a good job soldering the parts in. Read the convergence repair thread THOROUGHLY. We get calls all the time from people who have botched DIY repairs or who have had other "techs" botch them. ______________________ Why I support scouting... | Re: Mitsubishi HD1080 TV. Red and Green Shadows. Hi Lcaillo, I'll be careful and will follow your advice about read the convergence thread throughly. One question came in my mind. Please help me out. I have bought " High-Tech Rasin-Core Solder, 63/37" and a 40 watt soldering iron plus a desolder gun with a red bulb on it from Radio shack. The question is "that should I use a solder flux to solder the ICs or the 63/37 Rasin core solder is good enough without a soldering flux? Please let me know. I'll appreciate. Best Regards, Aqad. | Re: Mitsubishi HD1080 TV. Red and Green Shadows. Thanks Lcaillo. One silly question to ask. There are connectors between the three PCB boards. THose are 19 pin (kind a ribbon connectors) between the PCBs. For example, KE, KF, KH (says PCS main) etc. One side of the connector has two notches to hold on end end. THe other side of the connector does not have any notch to hold. I hold the two notches on one side of the connector and tried to pull it out to disconnect but it did not move at all. I don't know the trick to disconnect and I don't want to damage it. Could you please help me out how I can disconnect these type of connectors. Last edited by aqad786; 11-18-07 at 11:12 PM.. | Re: Mitsubishi HD1080 TV. Red and Green Shadows. They snap up. Sometimes they are tight. Lift by the two tabs on the ends but don't break them as they are not available as indivisual parts. ______________________ Why I support scouting... | Re: Mitsubishi HD1080 TV. Red and Green Shadows. Hi Lcaillo, Thanks for replying. I was able to disconnect them by pulling it up and using a flat screw driver at the bottom to give them an upward lift. Thanks for your help. Best Regards, Aqad | ||||
