Help Mitsubishi VC4543a wont power up

this is my first post and I apologize if its in the wrong area please feel free to relocate it to where i would get the best assistance if i posted incorrectly.
I have a Mitsubishi VC4543A projection screen TV .. when I try to power it on. i hear a click and then the set turns itself off. i have not opened the set at this point. i have no service manual for the set. i have some electronics component level experience.
Can anyone help me get started on repairing this issue?
its a bad time as its the only set we have so i need this box to light up again if I can. Thanks in advance for your help.

A service manual will not help you very much. You need some basic skilled troubleshooting and an ESR meter. There are lots of reasons that this could occur, and a skilled tech could isolated it fairly easily in most cases. Not a good DIY project if you don't understand how these sets work.

Re: Help Mitsubishi VC4543a wont power up

Hello and thank you for your prompt response. Though i appreciate your sentiment I would like to make it known that I do posses both keen troubleshooting skills and an ESR meter. I realize that the cost to have a tech repair this set wouldn't be extremely high as well . However I would still like to attempt to diagnose and possibly repair this set with my own hands. The set is rather old and well to be honest if it does not work out well I will simply replace the set.
With that said if there is any info you or anyone else may be able to forward to me to help get me on track with possibly diagnosing and solving this issue it would be a great help. Once again thank you for looking at my problem.

I would start by determining if the main power supply is running and if it is not there is a good chance the regulator IC is bad or you have a bad cap. I would also check all of the caps on the secondary low voltage regulators, particularly the 9V regulator.

thanks much am going to tear into this set over the weekend. I was leaning towards power supply as well but the quick Click and then self shutdown had me thinking other issues.

The first question is whether the main SMPS ever comes up or not. The fact that you get no diagnostic code makes me think it likely does not.

I havent recieved a diagnostic code because i havent been able to find out how to locate one to date. thats why i was looking for the manual..
i thought it may contain the button sequence to get a code out of the set?
can you point me to the sequence? it would be a great help. Thank you.

I don't recall if they had diagnostics on that model or not. If they did, it would be a two-digit blink code on the front panel LED, accessed by pressing MENU and INPUT simultaneously for more than 5 seconds. That set may have been built before they had any diagnostics on board, however.

So is the main PS even running?

Hi again I am sorry not to get back to you quickly. I have been working 16 hour days all week , had to have a home ready for service by today.. made it .. I was not going to get into that set until probably this Sat or Sun . I do believe the main Power supply is up though.
