Samsung HLC473w Post convergence problem

Hi
I have a Samsung 47" RPTV model HLC473WBX/XAC. The convergence chips were relaced twice since I purchased the unit back in 2003. The first replacement of the stk's was done by a local repair shop that cost around $375. Soon after the stk's were replaced, my wife and I noticed some lines, diagonal pattern, from top left corner to bottom right corner. This was an intermittent occurance. As time went on the lines became more frequent. Last month the second convergence problem ocurred on the unit . I replaced the stk's, set up and test ok.
But the lines are still present.
I don't know if the stk's have anything to do with the lines but I thought I put a brief history about the lines
Any help would be appriciated, Thank you

nik

Re: Samsung HLC473w Post convergence problem

The lines are likely unrelated to the convergence problems. Repeat failures of convergence ICs in these sets are likely due to using inferior parts or inefficient setup. Have you read the posts at the top of the convergence repair thread?

Re: Samsung HLC473w Post convergence problem

I followed your instructions and I bought Sanyo chips off the internet, installed them and fixed the convergence problem. I also installed a fan with an external power supply so that the chips would be kept at a cooler temperature. If the lines are not a convergence problem, then I am at a loss as to how to fix them. The instructions you gave me in regard to the covergence problem were very thorough and I really appreciate it as the chips are working and we are now able to watch tv again. What kind of setup beside setting the convergence settings are you referring to? Is there a set up in the service menu that I have missed? I read in another forum that it could be high setting in the RGB and vertical height. Im not sure what that really meant. Any help you could give me with this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Nik

Can you post a picture of these lines?

Re: Samsung HLC473w Post convergence problem

Those lines have nothing to do with convergence. More likely a wire dress problem or a filering issue in the set, or a source issue. My best guess is that some wires were not put back where they belonged and are picking up some interference. It can be very important to dress wires the way they came from the factory in some sets.

Re: Samsung HLC473w Post convergence problem

You hit the nail right on the head. I tried moving a couple of wires around and found that the first tech that did some work broke a clip holding wires, so when I changed the chips I did notice the clip being out of place but after reading your post I found that the wires were not in the right position that they should have been. There are still lines on the screen. It is just finding the right combination of wires that are causing interference. Thanks very much for all of your time and help with this matter.
