I have a Mitsubishi wt-42311 I get the flashing code 2-1 like 3 or 4 times after holding the buttons for 5 or so seconds what does this mean?I was having a problem with the picture zooming in and out some times but it was really sporadic. Then I hooked up a coax cable and herd a bunch of weird sounds when I turned the tv on then nothing no more picture just sound any ideas?

Are you sure that the code is 2-1 and not 1-2? 2-1 is X-ray protection, likely a failure in the high voltage reference or regulation circuits. I would suggest having a skilled tech service these kinds of problems. 1-2 indicates that the set did not shut down due to a problem that is monitored by the protection circuits.

When you say the picture was zooming in and out, do you get poorer focus or convergence when this happens? Do the sides get curved? What degree of zooming do you get?

It is in fact 1-2 it blinks for 5 sets.As far as the zooming the picture would also get all distorted and out of focus while the zooming was happening.I'm not sure about the sides being curved it would do it pretty quickly(the zooming in and out) then the tv would shut off.Turn the tv back on and it was usually fine. Some times the tv was on for a few hours and was fine and some times it could be on for 5 minutes and do it.

Is the picture out of convergence or out of focus when this happens? Big difference in terms of diagnosis.

Re: mitsubishi wt-42311 sound and no picture

Convergence is the alignment of the three colors, red, green, and blue and is effected electronically by correction waveforms applied to the convergence yokes to electromagnetically alter the position and shape of the electron beam. Focus is how well the beam is controlled to provide the smallest spot size at the phosphor as the beam scans. It is effected electrostatically with high voltage in the CRT and also optically in the lenses.

If you have a convergence problem the fix is likely easy to DIY. If you have a focus problem it may require a tech with experience and the right equipment.

Without a better description of the problem, there is no way to diagnose it. Sounds like you are beyond your DIY capability and you need to find an experienced Mits tech.
