It sounds like you are talking about the DM (larger board) and the DM supply (smaller one with caps). Everything on the DM supply is pretty generic and should be available to repair it, but many shops are not capable of that level of troubleshooting and repair (actually they usually are but don't want to get to that level). There is also the EEPROM module, IIRC, on that model which can cause boot failures. Usually if you change the caps and check the fuses on the DM supply and it still will not work yo u have a problem on the DM itself.

I suspect that the DM and DM supply are not available since early in the life of the sets when thyey had problems with the caps lots of shops just changed the boards instead of repairing them. If this is the case, I would definitely speak to customer relations at Mitsubishi about some accomodation. You need to have a very specific estimate with part numbers and you purchase invoice if you are going to contact them.

Leonard,
The repairman said the part that needed replaced was DM Assembly Part # 955C230002. He sent the report to Mitsubishi. Today I received a call from Chris at Mitsubishi Customer Relations and he said they would pay for the parts and I would be responsible for labor, which on the repair estimate was $120. The part was $325. Chris said my DM Assembly would have to be sent in to Mitsubishi and they would re-build it. Do you think whenthey said they would pay for the parts that would include them re-building it? I wasn't sure if this will fix the problem so I asked about replacing the set. They said nthey couldn't talk about replacement until after it has been in the shop at least one time. He said they would give a 9 month warrantee and if it broke in that time they would then discuss replacement with me. Do you think I should go along wioth these terms? Thank you for your advice.

Yes, parts includes the rebuild, but not the labor for the servicer to pull and reinstall it. What is wrong with that deal? It sounds pretty generous to me. Your set is how old? No other manufacturer would even consider such an accomodation.
