| Little Miss Sunshine Hello all,
Just wanted to give you a review of the movie "Little Miss Sunshine". I will list this movie as this year's "Sideways". For those of you who haven't seen that movie I highly recommend it.
Little Miss Sunshine was billed as a Steve Carrell movie, but he is not the main player in this movie. The role of main character is equally shared by all of the family in this movie. Very good decision in all actors chosen for this movie. Steve Carrell as the quirky homosexual with suicidal tendencies, Greg Kinnear as the struggling motivational speaker, Alan Arkin as the drug using potty mouth grandpa, Toni Collette as the near hippie always positive mother, and unknowns Abigail Breslin, who you may have remembered in "Signs", as the cheery daughter and Paul Dano as the self chosen mute son.
Little Miss Sunshine is a very enjoyable movie from the start. The first couple minutes are slow, but as soon as the plot is established the movie just flourishes. After learning that daughter Olive has won a beauty pageant by default from another contestant the whole crew loads up in a VW Bus and heads for sunny California. This is where the movie really gets going. For most of the movie it could be considered a flick where one disaster happens right after another, but, unlike other disaster riddled movies, I actually liked this one. All comedic elements were thrown together at exactly the right spot. It was a very funny movie by all means.
As for audio and video quality, most would consider this to be a standard, nothing special about it movie. I would be the first to disagree. This is exactly the style of film and sound editing I enjoy. Picture quality through the whole film is crisp. There were no shots that would make anyone's jaw drop, same thing for the sound. Like I said, that's the way I enjoy it. I like a movie I can get lost in the plot and not be put off by bad or overly processed audio and video. This leaves nothing for distraction and everything on the movie itself.
All in all I would put a high endorsement and recommend all go out and buy or at least rent this movie as soon as possible. This is a movie I can see myself enjoying over and over time and time again. |
